First time DLing in suit - very difficult to reach the bar

Wow, I just finished my first DL workout in a suit, and it killed me! It took a tremedous effor to get down to the bar, and I wasn't even using a very tight suit.

Here's how the workout went:
135 x a few
225 x a few
315 x 3
405 x 3 - suit bottoms and belt on
495 x 0 - straps up, I reached the bar after about 3 minutes of straining, then I couldn't get enough air into my lungs, so I failed 5 inches off the floor.
495 x 1 - took my belt out a notch, got more air, smoked it
525 x 1 - easy
555 x 1 - easy, PR!
570 x 0 - barely got to the bar, and then failed mid way up the thigh b/c I forgot to chalk my hands!
570 x 1 - not too hard, another PR!

Any pointers on using a suit better for deadlifting? I really had to loosen my belt in order to get air into my lungs after grabbing the bar.

Good job on the PRs. How much do you think that the suit
helped you on the heavy stuff? Did it enable you to set the
PRs?

Thanks!

It's really hard to say how much the suit helped. I could probably have done 570 without the suit, although I think it helped me get off the floor faster. I wasted alot of energy fighting the damn thing. I think once I get used to it, 600+ should be no problem.

I do not really know for sure, but due to the angle of the pull of the suit, I think it will help a little more with conventional, but only a few pounds (like say 5-10).

I only tried one once. It was tight. I will never do that again.

What kind of deadlift suit are you using? Cause im capable of getting alot out of my deadlift suit. You can get from 25-50lbs out of one. Well here are some tips thaT helped me reach the bar without passing out:

ok, when you put your straps up have someone get behind you and pull the back of the straps up. like kinda rise it up a little in the back and the front should go down a little.

you might have to have your belt loose, cause its kinda hard to pull with it as tight as your normally wear it.

Make sure you have enough chalk on your hands and enough baby powder on your legs.

walk up to the bar, get into your stance, and make sure the bar is about an inch or two away from your legs. dont get on top of it.

you might have to bend down like your doing a still legged deadlift, get your grip and then pull yourself down. But before you go down make sure you have enough air in your lungs.

Then Pull like a Son of A B***H!

I hope this might help you, Good Luck and Congrats on your PR.

I think it's a Titan NXG suit. It's a hand-me-down from Kirk.

Good idea with bending down with stiff legs. I was bending my knees, and then straightening them out so I could get a breath, and then rebending them.

I also learned my lesson about deadlifting in sneakers. They were causing me to lean forward too much. I did the last lift in just my socks, and it was a noticeable difference. I need to get a pair of ballet slippers or something of that sort. Where can I get something like that? I used to use chucks until I wore them out, but I think the slippers would be even better.

I got a pair of those slippers from Titan's website for like $5.

Freak and others, just how tight are these suits? I only have a Champion squat suit. I can get down to the bar with no problems in that. So far I really don't know if it helps me or hurts my lift. I may dead in the singlet at the meet in 3 weeks. I also don't even know if I'm going convetional or sumo. I'm all messed up, lol.
