I trianed my shoulders today and in the middle of doing shrugs, I pulled or pinched something mean! I have a pain going from my upper right shoulder into my neck. I can barely move my head from side to side without wincing. Any suggestions, besides seeing a chiropractor? Thanks for any help.

Pinched a nerve maybe. If you pinched a nerve in your neck you should be alright to lift. If you strained a muscle rest it over the weekend no sense in making it worse.

that happened to me at a wedding, it hurt so bad i had to hold my head cocked to one side to ease the pain. all i could do was massage it out and hope that my repeated attempts to straighten it out helped. eventually after about 5 hours of holding it to one side the tension was relieved.

i would say massage it till it goes away.

The pain is subsiding. I have only been back training for a short time and trying to get back the way I used to be. I suppose I shouldn't be doing sets of 85 db just yet. It felt good until I felt that pull. Thanks for your guys input.

Sounds like levator scapula. It runs from the inside tip of the shoulder blade to the back of the head. If it's tight, it will cause pain while shrugging. Stretch it out. If it's on the right side, grab your right hand behind your back with the left and gently side bend your head to the left. You should feel it just on top of the traps. I also agree with the massage therapy.

I have a muscle in my neck, sounds like it might be the same one, that no matter how much I warm up, I seem to pull badly once a year. I find a strong over the counter muscle relaxant, such as robaxacet, helps with the pain and seems to help it heal faster.
