explosive calve raises.. would these work?

im trying to make my calve raises as explosive as possible. this is what im doing:

1: go on a stair step like a normal calve raise with out weights.
2. on one foot with out holding anything (helps with balance and strengthens the ankles)
3. go down on the eccentrice as far as possible.
4. then explode up fast enough (only using my calves no bend in the kness at all or swinging of the arms) so that i am actually jumping off the step.

what do you guys think of these?

why are you trying to build explosive calfs?

I do a similar thing except i dont do it on a step (i also use both feet) and i use weight and shrug at the end


why do you not use weight....and how many reps do you do?
 
I just use one leg, with a dumbell in one hand, and explode up as hard as I can even use my legs and whole body. That is how calves work, in a unit with the rest of your leg muscles. No need to isolate too much.

my calves :)
They have grown 0.5 inches over the last 4 weeks from 3 sets of 6 single leg dumbell calf raises and olympic lifts. My calves get sore from squats too.

remeber progressive resistance - you need to keep overlaoding them heavier to get then stronger.

well i want explosive calves for ball. i dont use weight yet because i can only get a couple reps in until it is bd quality in my form.
 
well what you can do is do those calves raises on the stair like you said and stetch down and explode up to the next set of stairs. Then add enough weight so that you can barely get to the next stairs, and keep progressing, That will definitely work for a while anyway until your body adapts to it
 
if i want to explode to the next step i cant isolate it. im going to have to bend my knees.
