No need to tell me that people die man, I see it everyday, I look at people's hearts, I look inside of the with ultrasound and actually see what their heart looks like. I know instantly if they are going to live or die based on all Ive studied, their ejection fraction they have a 50% chance of mortality in a year or the next six months, three months, week, that day and/or they are completely fucked. I know this and then I look in their eye and I know what emotions are, I know what people are thinking, what the family is thinking, I know the questions they ask, I know what its like to see a heart stop and fill up with a clot b/c it isnt beating and no one is doing cpr on it b/c its a no code. Its forever etched in my mind seeing that swirl of blood clotting in the heart and a person takes their last look around on this planet. Do you know what its like to see someone die?? You ever looked into the eyes of someone that knows they are going to die soon?

yes i have looked into their eyes
yes i have been there, asking if a patient wants us to discontinue their meds so that pneumonia takes them
yes i have seen vibrant people shrivel into sad, confused husks before they pass
yes i have given out medication and had long talks with people who know that they are going to die and have little faith in the drugs im giving them
yes i have seen people contact charlatans from across the world selling some vile, fake product that *might* just cure them

Well if you ever do and you need to comfort and care for them and alleviate their feelings of coming to their end, I hope you show a lil bit more *compassion* than you are right now.

i will show compassion where *I* think it will actually do something good. if i were in front of a victim of yesterdays bombing, or their family, or someone genuinely affected, then i would show compassion, empathise, shoulder some of that burden for them and help them move along...but this isnt one of those times. if i want to be flippant or sardonic on an anonymous forum in front of raging, hateful people shedding crocodile tears and mouthing empty phrases, then i will.

i have boatloads of compassion for sick people, and patients...but showing it here is empty, and counterproductive. not in this case.

Its about empathy, its about putting yourself in another person's shoes, fuck professional distance, its about being HUMAN for once. Sure people die everyday, but you are missing the significance of it all. You sit in your freedom and say these things b/c you have that selfish luxury and you put down people who put their lives on the line and fight for something they beleive in trying to change a shithole and track down killers that want to kill you and your family. They are real and when it happens to Australians then you might understand what the fuck we are all talking about. OH Wait, it did happen to Australians, remember Bali bombings, well what do you have to say about that?? Are you consistent in your own mind with what you say?

that all depends on where you draw your battle lines, brotherbill. when i try to solve a problem, i try to find the root cause. as much as we can jump up and down and say yes, lets go find teh bad guys, i think it is more productive to look at why there are bad guys willing to do such things in the firts place - and in the context of 2 wars of choice in a couple of years, i think it is important to draw peoples attention to the nasty things our governments do without telling us.

i hated what was done in bali, but by the same token, i openly criticise the australian government for many of the things they do - whether its blindly following the USA regardless of the truth behind the matter, or the extension of australian fishing zones beyond our territorial waters, claiming reefs and fishing holes used by indonesian mariners before australia was colonised.

i am critical, but usually, im consistent, and i judge myself at least as harshly as i do others, thankyouverymuch.

Should they track down the people and organizations that did that and want to do it again?? If your answer is no the reason why is b/c you are not being true intellectually on all of this be it lack of understanding of how the world works, geopolitics, history, why wars are waged. The US was attacked, embassy bombings, the first WTC, they declared war on US! Not the other way around and Saddam Hussein's fingerprints were all over the first WTC attack, read up on it, Im quoting James Woolsey former CIA director, all you need to do GD is read and educate yourself on these things so you dont have to resort to being an ass in your posts crying out for someone to explain all of this to you. Doing nothing after the first WTC, the embassy bombings in africa, the USS Cole etc... doing nothing no longer worked. Thank God we have a President that its willing to go after the evildoers and when someone you know or love is killed by these men and their idealogy, then that would be karma for you God Forbid.

im glad you have a president that is happy to go after everyone, but at the end of the day, the root cause of all this bullshit is US reliance on oil. if it werent for that, the US wouldnt give a rats arse about democracy etc etc, and would keep to itself. the only good hting for americans about george bush is that he is single (or simple) minded enough to be an opressor, which is whats needed. thats all. the US has been agressively meddling in the middle east for decades. they might have started trying to kill you guys first, but really, you guys gave tehm a fairly good reason to.

Well hell GD, your one of the few people here that I enjoy a spirited debate with. I like to draw out your opinions to see where they lead. We usually end up agreeing partially. There is an element of truth to the oil but its not as clear as you think. Its never black and white GD, the world is gray man, the world is gray.
