Ever heard of Sleep parylasis?

Is that the one where you mentally wake up but your body can't move? I used to get that when I was younger and it was scary when I got it.

Yeah man... That's some scary shit for real... I used to get it all the time when I was younger and night terrors, but rarely these days.

I would wake up with eyes open but completely paralyzed body and could look around my room and see these dark shadow creatures crawling around my room and sometimes I would hallucinate them holding me down on my bed... Being the cause of not being able to move my body... Shit was traumatizing as a kid haha.

Happens when your pineal gland basically freezes up thanks to drinking too much fluorinated water. Then it can't secrete seratonin and your body basically goes into depression and paranoia/hallucination.

The brain's control over muscles during REM sleep points out that in this period, a body is normally in the state of total paralysis, called a "nonreciprocal flaccid paralysis" (3). Probably to prevent a person from "acting out" a dream, the brain sends signals to inhibit any muscle contractions.

otherwise I'd be humping the bed posts

I get it every few months worse in the sandbox. I've now managed to assert awareness and with go to sleep or wakeup. It used to snare the shit out of me

I had it once. I honestly thought I was having some kind of anxiety attack. It felt like some one was sitting on my chest and I could barely breathe.

Funny how this shit happens mostly when you're a child ... I remember the trauma of that VERY well ... and you try to scream or call to your parents and you can HEAR your voice, but only in your own mind ... no freaking sound comes out of your mouth! Ugh ... bad memories!

i was so fucked up on somnil last night

hell, my son walks into my room in the middle of the night and I hear him before he utters a word. Kind of shuffling and lightly grunting/whining. Before he even gets into the bedroom, I wake up and get out of bed to usher him into the bathroom.

Shit man I think of that scene at the start of that Day of the Dead flick when you described your son's nocturnal meandering :worried:

Mine is like I can see everything in the room is the same and I can see it all and I feel like I can move, then I realize I'm still asleep and it gets hard for me to breathe and I try to hit my gf to wake me up and I think I'm hitting her hard/moving around but I'm not then I wake up and gasp for air.

They say to come out to try and do the littlest thing like move your toe around but I try and it never works so I just try to calm down and lower my heart rate and just "fall" back asleep to wake up.

It is scary shit though, I have 2 dream catchers above my bed now and I've only had one more since.

It does suck though and I feel sorry for anyone that has to go through it.

sounds nice. I hear everything that sounds remotely like the voice or cry of a child and wake up to it instantly. :(

I'm sorry but I gotta say this and give credit where it is due.

That is absolutely adorable to me. So cute. I am the same way, obviously but I have never heard of a man being that way.

Lol, my friends bought me a dream catcher because I have it so much.

I was on vacation last week with a bunch of friends and I had an episode. A man standing over me with his hand over my throat choking me. I couldn't breathe and was scared. I'm dead serious, no jokes people. Lol. The man wasn't anyone I knew. He was like a ghost figure but still pressure on my throat. And not the sexy kind.

that's scary Cindy.

I got a dream catcher for my son because he used to have bad dreams. Hasn't in a while though. Maybe he's growing up

When will I grow up? :(

I remember my first real nightmare as a kid and it was so terrifying I went into some kinda shock. It scared me so much that I laid around and went completely mute for a day, I couldn't speak at all it freaked my parents out. I couldn't do anything, I couldn't even sit up in a chair, when they took me to the doctor all I could die was lie down in the backseat and stare into space. Then, poof I was fine. I still remember the dream, vividly. Lol, poor toddler Cindy.

I used to have a bizarre recurrent nitemare from my childhood until I was about 22-ish..then it just stopped

I've never had any of those Shirl. Those are bizarre. I wonder what happened at 22 to make it stop? Dreams are always bizarre.

something with a similar scene to the dream and it stopped ...the actual event was just as scarey and so close to the dream that an already scarey thing was borderline freezing/terrifying

I have recurring dreams of airplanes crashing out of the sky onto the ground and dead bodies and destruction everywhere. I'm always on the ground and watching and screaming as the plane comes crashing down. Its terrifying and I have no idea why I keep having these dreams over the last 20 yrs or so. I'm not afraid to fly so it's weird. I get a lot of anxiety (a lot) when I drive near an airport and there are low flying planes. Its really freaks me out. My heart races and my face gets blotchy and my palms get sweaty LOL Chris thinks its funny

I get these moments when I feel like something has entered my brain, and I'm out of control and its really evil. I try to start screaming so someone will wake me up, but my mouth won't open. I try to wiggle myself awake but my body is paralyzed. Sometimes I think I wake myself out of it, walk around, calm down, then all of a sudden the evil re-enters my brain and I realize I didn't wake up I just dreamed that I did....

It happened a lot in college, then didn't happen for a long time. Then I took a hit of ecstacy, and shortly after that the dreams started again. So I connected it to the use of psychadelic drugs. I only tripped a few times in college, nothing serious. I doubt that the drugs caused it, but probably trigger something in your brain to make it more likely.

The dream comes back still, but not very often, and I have trained myself to stay calmer when it does.

Lol bitch please. I'm the fuckin Shepard.

So that is your sheep call?? There are no sheep here (that I know of) but if I were a sheep that is a terrible sheep call! They like it when you shake your zipper and say "heyyyyyyyyyyyy."
