Eggs, how long do they last?

Tink!

New member
Ok seriously, i have been wondering for years and years, how long do they stay good for?? When i ask people, i get conflicting info....so was wondering if any of you knew?? How long can i keep them in my fridge??? And once they are hard boiled, how long do they keep in the fridge? Thank you

thanks..see some people say you can keep them up to a week after the exp. date??? LOL i hardly eat them, so don't have to worry about it, but my daughter is getting hooked on them..so wanted to be sure i didn't make her sick

The expiration date is NOT a date that the eggs suddenly go bad..... it's a suggestion and so the stores won't sell them.....as long as they are kept properly refrigerated -- in the box & not in the egg holders or on the door -- they can last several weeks past expiration.......

I've eaten eggs 1 month after expiration & they were NOT bad..... You'd smell them if they were bad..........

HOWEVER, your little one's immune system is not as strong as yours -- it's still growing, so don't take ANY chances with her..... A tiny bit of EColi is very dangerous for a young child....

If you don't think you'll use the eggs, you can freeze them with a little salt -- cracked into a container, add salt & freeze. Use within 1 month.

What Jen said

and if it's an "old" egg cook it enough to kill the potential bacteries

With the age of her daughter (4), it's best not to take the risk with "older" eggs as her daughter's age = compromised immune system

Yes, you're right
Though in the old time (well, a few decenies ago) we (both adults and children) were not so much obsessed by those expiration dates (if it smelled good and looked good it was safe to eat)

my gosh this was extremely help ful!!! i had no idea that eggs could be frozen!! and to defrost, just leave in fridge over night????
thank you so so so much!

The potential for getting e-coli poisoning from eggs is extremely small for the average person.

I'd don't use them after the expiration date myself. They are cheap anyway.

You can tell an egg is bad if it doesn't sink in a pot of water or if it sinks slowly or doesn't want to stay seated on the botom. A fresh egg will drop like a rock.
