Eating Oats Raw

i eat my oats raw every day. i do this with the steel cut oats in fact. my first two meals are shakes with 3/4 cup steel cut oats 2 scoops isopure and like 4 tablesppons of flax seed meal. this is the easiest way for me to get these nutrients down.

plain old rolled oats are very different from steel cut oats. Steel cut oats are almost like pellets, very hard and take about 30minutes to fully cook. Rolled (not instant) take about 5 minutes to cook.

Honestly I am not sure about the digestibility of steel cut oats that aren't cooked. easier digestion and absorption of nutrients is all based on how much surface area you can create from the food you take in.

Look at it like this.

If you eat whole kernels of corn, didn't chew them, just swallowed them. When you go to the bathroom the next day they would be completely intact whole corn kernels, so you basically got nothing out of them because you didn't digest them. I would have to imagine steel cut oats (raw) would be the same way.

Rolled oats are basically steel cut oats only rolled flat which makes for a greater surface and easier digestibility. on top of that you are chewing the raw oats which in turn creates even more surface area which makes for easier digestion and absorbability

Raw rolled oats I believe is definitely the way to go if you are going to put something in your shake. Unfortunately I would have to believe that raw steel cut oats are passing right through you without you absorbing much if any nutritional value

i do have to basically chew the last half of my shake all the oats sit at the bottom and its like sludge. i wonder if i am missing the nutrients? anyone else care to weigh in?

wont the oats absorb the water eventually whether it be before you eat them or after? if thats the case if u could down more oats right of the bat, 30min later might u not feel the expansion going on? or do you feel normal still?

I do tend to eat raw steel cut oats myself (lazy ass) and I never feel bloated after doing so. I'm not sure if oats would maintain that property after they sit in some hcl and liquify in your stomach

this has been my primary source of carbs for about two months. i eat like 10 servings of greens with afternoon /evening meals and the raw oat shakes as early meals. and about every three days i throw in a can of kidney or black beans as my carb up days.

If you are excreting whole corn kernels, then you should take betaine hydrocloride and pancreatin before eating corn. Also you should stop taking calcium carbonate sups and start taking calcium citrate supps. Not enough acid in teh stomach leads to all sorts of digestive problems as well as food allergies

That is what I was trying to explain.

How about soaking them overnight.

Agree.. Make it easy on yourself and your stomach. If your worried about not absorbing the nutrients throw everything in the blender.

My morning shake = 1.5 scoops OP Whey, 1 cup oats, banana, flax oil, 2 tbsp ANBP, 300ml water

goes down easy.

+ while its blending I make meal 2

so ur saying i need to chew my corn? or take a pill cause me and corn have this ongoing battle of who will win.. and so far the corn is 1-0

All stomach contents should be liquid before being release to the pancrease for acid neutralization. I used to excrete corn, greens and spinach. At this point I stopped using all stomach acid buffering items such as tums , pepcid ac, alka seltzer or any other bicarbonate (calcium bicarbonate , potassium bicarbonate sodium bicarbonate) unless a doctor told me to. People think excess stomach asid is a problem when it is infact the reverse that's a problem
