i think a flat bench for them is fine. I used to do them, but i felt a strain in my arm for some reason. I have actually been thinking of giving them a go again though because overall, i think they're a very underrated exercise.
They expand your rib cage, which makes your chest bigger and they also hit your lats.
ive been doing these for probably about a year consistently... ive worked up from struggling with a 50, to getting 8 reps with the 100... my chest and lats grew fairly well, even when i took a couple months off serious bench pressing... i like the feel of the muscles being worked... but i honestly cant say they expanded my ribcage...
if i didnt compete in powerlifting, pullovers and ohp would be my main upperbody lifts..

My old gym had an OG Nautalus pullover machine. It used to wreck my lats. DB pullovers feel like an impingement waiting to happen for me, so I won't do them.
