Dog owners, I gotta ask something

If you walk your dog (on public parks or streets) for it to do it's business, do you clean up after it or do you just leave the mess?

If you leave it, what gives you the right (particularly when it comes to the dog using someone's lawn)?

I'm trying to understand the mentality here, seriously.

It's organic fertilizer. I'd pick it up, but I hate to set-back the all-natural movement.

Well, I don't know of a case where a burglar retreated at the site of an eight pound cat but my 100 pound German Shepherd mix scared the shit out of a potential burglar and foiled his burglary while I was gone. Dogs have traditionally been valued members in a culture due to their status as working dogs. Those of us that have had working dogs know you have to keep them interested and exercised....we bred them that way.

I doubt there will be a cats of war monument.

Excuse me, I'm not anti-dog, and I've said that over, and over and over. However, a dog would no more fit into my lifestyle than a new baby would and in fact a baby would be less of a problem, because the cats I live with wouldn't have a problem with a baby, whereas most of them would be deathly afraid of a dog. And I'm sorry, but you cannot go on vacation for 9 days and leave your dog alone in the house with litter pans and sufficient food, no matter how sharp the dog is. It would be cruel, and it would be irresponsible.

Comparing cats to dogs is like comparing apples to pine trees. They each fill their niche in society.

My point in this thread was not a cats vs. dogs debate, because that's the same as a Christian vs. Wiccan debate. I just wanted to vent about dog owners who think it's okay to let their dogs shit on my front yard and not clean up the poop and I don't understand why. I would never, in a million years, dream of dumping a dirty litter pan on someone's front yard.

Responsible owners clean up after their dogs. Hell, even at the dog parks where bags are provided some people just leave the doo-doo sitting on the ground.

Seems to be the female crowd (at least from what I've observed) that are to busy yapping on their cell phones to even pay attention to what their dogs are doing.

Cats are only good at controlling the smallest of pests..mice. A proper rat is almost as big as a cat and twice as vicious.

I agree it's irresponsible not to pick up after your dog and I also agree that comparing cats and dogs isn't a fair comparison, dogs are a valuable contributors to society and cats are a barely useful but extremely annoying parasite.

I agree it's irresponsible not to pick up after your dog and I also agree that comparing cats and dogs isn't a fair comparison, dogs are a valuable contributors to society and cats are a barely useful but extremely annoying parasite.

Actually, it's been speculated that the Black Plague occurred as a result of so many cats being killed due to "witch fears" and the resultant boom in rodent population.

Cats are more effective rodent killers than dogs and are immune to many of the diseases transmittted by rodents, unlike humans and dogs.

Saying the cat is an annoying parasite is just patently bigoted. Men generally prefer dogs because dogs are pack animals, and as pack animals have developed social rules that are similar to humans. In fact, dogs have body language similar to ours, and can read our body language quite well.

Cats are solitary predators, their body language is completely different from a dogs and reading that language requires effort and empathy, much like the problem some men encounter when trying to understand women. It's too much like effort so "it's stupid."

To this day, one of the reasons there are feral cat trap/neuter/release projects (as opposed to poison)is that it's been discovered that killing the feral cats creates a very genuine pest problem that isn't easily controlled by humans.

I just wanted to know about the shitting thing, that was all. When I had dogs, I picked up after them when I walked them. One other thing to add to the list of rotten things about this neighborhood, people have no respect and don't give a damn.
