Does caffeine impair the effects of creatine?

I was told that if I drink coffee when taking my creatine it will be a waste of creatine because I would not gain any positive results. Is this true?

yes it is true. i did a report about it in high school. soda, coffee all have caffiene in it. they are both diuretics. caffeine pushes water out of the cell, and with creatine, you are wanting to volumize the cell. water is pushed in the cell. if you take caffeine while on creatine, it's like a neutral effect. water is being pushed out, and water is trying to be pushed in. hope this helps.

I remember reading a study that concluded this to be true. The authors were not sure as to why, but Wesdogs conclusion sounds somewhat viable. The suggestion of the authors was that for some reason caffeine affected the substrate utilization pattern within the muscle.

Really? Shit. I drink shit loads of caffeine (mostly Diet Coke) and also have ECA during the day. Am I risking gains otherwise (besides creatine becoming useless).
