Do you think its worth it for me to switch gyms?

Should I find a more bb orientated gym?

you see its like this. im in this typical happily colored cardio gym with lots of obese females and old people, and only a handful blokes that even look like they work out.

now this is actually no problem, i havent reached enough power yet to say their freeweights are too light, but one thing really bothers me. they have no squat rack. I am totally aware of all the advantages of free squatting over smith squatting as well as the reduced injury risk for your knees. i also know squats and working legs in general is the very base of a workout regime.

since im tall and still growing and i play basketball my knees have to cut enough slack imo. theres really no way to smith squat to failure without it being in some way uncomfortable to some joints.

Still, this gym is close to my school so its easy to access, the trainers know me now and after years of worrying finally trust me for knowing what i do when i lift heavy, which can be quite a problem if youre 16.

Also some of my friends work out in this gym.

Would you change gyms? even if it means youll have to walk a bunch further to the gym and they might bitch about your age?

o i forgot to say. perhaps means something for your vote:
membership is 39 euros a month (about 33.33 dollars or 23.5 brit pounds)

thats unlimited access 9-13 in the weekends and 7-22 in the weekdays.

i also get to play cds i bring along.

*wants to make this an honest poll*

If your only 16 you dont need to worry about going to a real hardcore gym but I would get the hell outta there if they dont even have a squat rack. Dont worry about the kinds of other people around you all that much, you'll find people to workout with almost anywhere...just make sure you get a place with good equipment. Music wise almost anywhere you go your gonna be unhappy with what their playing, which is why the portable CD player is a great thing, you can get one of those belts and for most exercises it doesnt get in the way(or if you want something smaller get one of those little am/fm radios that straps to your arm). I worked out at a YMCA when I first started training and they didnt have a whole lot of stuff but they at least had a squat rack, decent dumbells, wasnt too crowded and enough machines to keep me busy when I didnt know what I was doing. I did eventually outgrow the dumbells and wanted to seek out something better so I went to a local Gold's. I wouldnt wanna go to a true hardcore gym yet, like one of those things called "the iron pit" or anything because I dont mind having bright yellow walls and bad music, where I am they have lots of good equip and there is still one pair of dumbells that I haven't gotten my hands on yet. You should prob think about leaving your gym but I am sure you can find something relativly close to you that isnt bad.

If you are asking yourself if you need to be leaving...you probably need to.

IMO, the people at the GYM are Irrelevant...Equipment, rates and Location are the only decisions.

Jan, Is there another better equipped Gym convenient to where you live/work?
Same or comparable membership rates?
Are you and your squats ready for a Rack ?

There are other Gyms in my area that are a bit cheaper than the YMCA I use, but they are not as convenient to my home and work.
I drive right by my Gym on my way to work.

If it is a pain to get to the Gym each day, you are less likely to go regularly.
