Hey George, what version of the K system are you using? I can not find the one you are using for 3.7.2 which is the version you upgraded too.

Karma is something we build in house - like the karma store and karma bookie.

Re: SOOOO...what do you guys think? of the new forums?

"You must spread karma around before giving it to $userinfo[username] again."

:cow:

Good catch - is this still broken?

It looks like the modern skin for Musicmatch or Winamp. It's good though.

As far as kudos and brickbats go --

Kudos: Search for non-plats is vastly improved. I think the time limit feature is a good compromise to keep freeloaders like me from abusing the database. I also like that "Find more posts by..." search returns more than eight results for no-plat scum now. Thanks for that.

Brickbats: Graphic design is "meh", especially the appearance of quotebacks. And, when I go to my profile page to check Subscribed Threads, too many old threads that don't have any new replies show up there, I'd like to see a return to the old algorithm they used for displaying the Subscribed Threads.

Still, thanks for the effort you put into all this.

I also cannot give any karma.

Me neither, the box drops down and goes UNDER the next post.

:lmao: You gotta laugh, computer programming is just weird sometimes. Ever see the test shots from Pixar Studios?

If anyone is listening, I can't see the words, the font and size make it hard for older people to see. Can't the size be brought up some? Hell, there's quite a few of us over 40 on here, and some of us alot closer to 50.

and, it doesn't seem to be putting the thread up that I last posted in, usually that goes to the top of my "profile", what happened to that?

There are some size tweaks at various places in the control panel(s) -- many more of them than in the old board. Have to see about exposing some of them where you can get to them as a member.

thanks Digs, that font is just such a small pin size, it's a pain to have to read. My eye's aren't the best anymore, presbyopia has set in, the cheaters have become a necessity if I see/ read anything now that's closer than 4 feet. I hope that it can be brought up a little and a slightly larger pin size would be great.

This site is "geared" for the young people. :-)

The profile list of subscribed threads is pretty fakakta all the way around. It used to just show the ones that have been updated since my last logon, now it shows about a week's worth of history, with no way to tell the updated ones from the stale ones.

And it used to be that the ones you had looked at stayed there until you logged off and logged back on. Now you look at them and they vanish until someone posts up something new.

Edit: I stand corrected, that seems to be working okay.

Still frustrated by the width of the screen, though.

The new look is nice but I want it to go back to the forum when I am done posting. Mine just stays on the same thread that I replied in. Not to mention typing this message is making my screen go all the way to the right andit seems to big I cannot see if I type the same words over again from one line to the next..

Is there a way I can change the sizes?????

Some of you guys must have some tiny-ass monitors on your computers.

No, I have a 19" diagonal monitor, but it's older, and not a flat screen, plus I have it set for pretty big resolution ... if I set it to a smaller pixel value I can see the whole forum but I can't anything else. I'm already destroying my near vision by spending too damn much time in front of the computer for my work, I don't need to speed the process up.

yep, that's irritating. I'm not sure what's my fault and what's a new feature sometimes. I have no idea how to use the icons at the bottom. I guess somebodys gonna have to show this old dog a new trick, it's very hard to do.

Glasses. They really work.

I'm 52 years old, presbyopic, and I use a 21" monitor set to 1600x1200. I can't stand seeing 800x600 or 1080x800 blown up on a big screen with huge icons and an inch-thick taskbar.

Screw that shit, my husband has presbyopia and he tried those progressive lenses, drove him apeshit. I have degenerative disc disease in my neck, tilting my head to see higher or lower is only going to cause me pain in the long run. I can see perfectly fine at normal reading distance, I've just always been near sighted and can't focus on things less than a foot away from my face anymore. So it would be 2 pairs of glasses and as long as I can read and do my work without reading glasses I'm not going there.

George himself said the lack of fluidity is extremely aggravating and is on the To Do list of shit to fix. Right up there with the karma button, I suppose. I'm not the only person complaining about this.

Dime store reading glasses work just fine. Progressive lenses are okay for when you leave the house and need to be able to read a menu AND drive a car, but at home there's no point in them.

I can get used everything else but the font is a poor choice for easy reading, while verdana on the other had is easy as cake on a cheat day to read.

Fonts are an improvement, but I can't get used to the need to scroll side to side. I can either see the entire post, or see the avatar column and lose the right side of a post. When I quick respond the screen eventually centers on the post so I can't see what I'm typing on either end unless I take my hands off the keyboard and scroll to the side.

weird, i dont have that problem. what causes it

More functionality, streamlined look, better separation between sections. Nice work guys.

I like the Web 2.0 gradients and text too. It gives the site a more up to date look.

I am already sick of hearing about web 2.0.

The new look seemed good even at first, but its growing on me incredibly fast. I'm certainly no fanboi of anyone or anything, but here are a few things to consider:

1) We were pretty invested and comfortable in the old site. For people to be liking any change this soon, its a massive victory.

2) Upgrade processes suck. I'm shocked they got it up and running this quickly. Upgrade scripts never run on time, information never translates 1-to-1... its a thousand ways to die.

3) The new site has a great look-and-feel to me. For every visible upgrade we can see, there are probably 2-3 behind the scenes improvements that we won't directly feel but will benefit from over time.

Well done guys. That was an impressive transition.

that's what I use DB. I really need to go get my eye's checked, I can't see as well now as the past, I even moved to 1.5 cheaters, but my sight is not as good far away now either. I'll be 49 on my next B-day....

I didn't wear glasses until 40 then it was reading that progressed to real glasses i hated them so i wear contacts so i can wear sunglasses, now at 51 its progressed to contacts and reading glasses when the lighting isn't rite lol Mine started about the time i began spending time in front of a computer, my mom always said dont sit to close to the TV

how do you get along w/ your contacts? Do you wear them doing sports, etc?

Fixed!

Thank you! We will have the rest ironed out soon!

Kewl. I noticed in the other thread you mentioned that you're working on the width issue, and that and Karma are the only ones that really distress me and I am content in trusting that you said they'll be fixed eventually.

Now here is one I don't know if you noticed and it seems to be unpredictable, for lack of a better word. Sometimes threads that you have subscribed to "vanish." It just happened today. I log on and have three threads I'm subscribed to. I check the latest post in one of the threads, go back to my profile and now that thread is off the subscribed list and doesn't reappear until someone posts something new. It used to be that stuff didn't get cleared out unless you logged off. Sometimes you have a reason to want to reference back even though you looked at it a few minutes ago.

But sometimes it seems this doesn't happen.

At home I have a 22" LCD set to 1680x1050 and it's fine with glasses. My work LCD is dual 17"s set to 1280x1024. The problem is they are exactly the wrong distance away. Too close to need glasses but I can't set them any farther back. If I take them off I forget about them until I get to my car and I can't see shit.

Probably a coincidence that computers became a part of everyday life right about the time you were on schedule for presbyopia to start setting in. All those old warnings about your eyes -- reading in the dark, sitting too close to the TV -- those are just old wives tales.
