Do you ever feel like a mutant?

My gym is inside the headquarters where I work so to put it nicely I am by far the biggest guy that works out there. When I lift its almost as if everyones watching me, almost like the lion exhibit at the zoo. I dont mind it, actually its pretty cool, the thing that gets me is the pre conceived notion that big guys are dumb. When any of the people actually approcah me or ask for advice they always say your so much nicer than I thought and smarter. Its just funny how quick people are to judge each other.

Ya its hard to keep from judging others by their looks alone, because at first that's all you know about them and our brains are programmed to judge everything.

I'm just a little guy :verygood:

Hahaha yeah I know what you mean, my favorite is the lame dude with ILS (Imaginary lat Syndrom) that walk around all puffed out and grunting loud on sets and they are like 5'10 160 with 25 percent. :chomp:

I'm one of the bigger fish at a few of the gyms i go to weight wise, nobody really moves close to what i do but there are some bigger dudes then me. Don't really pay attention to them but i used to when i first started out. Always better to be the littler guy so you are always being pushed.

I've been a mutant my whole life - when I was 9 I was 6' 165lb with size 12 feet.

it really suprises me when someone is ever so cautious about using a piece of equipment that I was just using. they approach me like im a wild animal that if they are not careful im gonna bite there head off and ask ever so politly if i am done using the bench or whatever.

people always look at me and assume that im the best looking guy in the world and prob a SEX GOD...people always judge me but you know what hapens when your ASSUME it makes an ASS/OUT OF/U/&/ME

What the fuck? Judging from this post, I assume you are high.

I trained with a girl from work in her small gym based in a school a few weeks back.

At one point in time, EVERYONE in the gym had stopped what they were doing, formed a semi-circle around me to watch me do bent over barbell rows (and no my ass was to the wall :) ).

It was a bit odd, but I just focused on what I was doing.

I do think in this age of obesity, those that are in shape, especially BBers are going to be viewed as 'mutants' a lot more.

On the judging thing, it is automatic that we make judgements about people.

I just notice, 'oh look, I am making a judgement' (most of the time) and then set it aside.

I sure hope someday I'm big enough to feel like a mutant lol.

Going thorugh life with people noticing you for your size isn't always a good thing.

Only big guys will know what I mean by that - don't get me wrong, it does have it's benefits.

I see what you mean in a way I think. I had a few good friends/training partners a few years back that were freaks and I could see where it could have its downside, but the benefits seem to outweigh the negatives.

People tend to have the misconception that all of us are a bunch of knuckledraggers.

I majored in physics and minored in math and I'm bigger than 90% of the pricks in my gym. They prance around in their little "school of engineering, school of law blah blah blah" shirts boasting that they are smart while probably assuming that the bigger guys are total rocks. But the funny thing is, you know that they would give anything to look like us. haha

I feel you bro I have my MBA and two undergrads but people are amazed when I dont drool out of the side of my face.

I do make it a point to be nice and offer what little advice I can to people that ask questions. I dont mind them watching me workout, i think what gets them is that they have never seen the lifts i do, nobody does cleans, standing presses, squats, deads etc. All they are used to seeing is people on the machines. I do get embarrassed when the girls ask to feel my muscles. The sad part is im not that big especially compared to the people on this board, but in my little world you would think im arnold. lol

Go to LA a work a few times. I thought I was big and then I saw what big was. Its great motivation and you also get good training/gear tips.

I feel kinda chubby @ the gym :whatever:

It's this complex that got me in shape back in the day and has helped me lose 30 or so of my nasty fat lbs I gained while injured lol. So I'll keep calling myself fat b/c it works.
