Do any of you fellow powerlifters worry about your physique?

That is a good range to be in. I stay in there also. i have been below, and probably gettin there now but come dec i will go up to 16% as a high.

I do! I'll do a powerlifting comp pretty soon and I want to proove that you don't need to be a fat ass to be strong. I'm 5', 11%bf@120 lbs and I'll kick some ass and brake records!

hell no I dont care about my physique!

I quit dieting and got rid of my abs, so 13 pounds and 10 weeks later my bench went up 30lbs, and both my squats and deadlifts went up by 45lbs. I'm can't wait to put on more weight so I can lift even more!

I wanna look good too......

I love powerlifting myself, but I feel there is nothing wrong with looking good also. I feel everyone is different, and should choose the way they want to feel and look like.I also would like to show people that all powerlifters aren't fat and out of shape. I will lose as much fat,and tone up as allowed to stay in my weight class, and make sure that my lifts are not affected. If I didn't someone might mistake me for a body builder or something, and once you go powerlifter you will never want to enter into the world of bodybuilding ever again.:fro:

here is the general consensus:

bodybuilders look good without much function

powerlifters are strong but not much to look at

c'mon guys...... there has to be a happy medium in that somewhere

I cant remember the issue ( i think june or july) of powerlifting USA.
there are gang shots of the members of the Westside barbell club.
The first group looks shit hot.

Bit of bodyfat, huge arms, huge pecs and some have abs.

but they look freaky strong.
they look so strong its scary
Its an awesome look.

as for myself yes i feel the pressure to look good.......but it is something that has been engrained into me. I feel as though i have a body image disorder.

the training im doing now (hypertrophy section of the training cycle) is having a positive effect on my body composition.

and it makes me feel better

i pretty much like to stay in my weight class or damn close to it,so i keep my bodyfat pretty low.there is nothing wrong with people that want to lift more and hol a bit of fat..they won't be judged by the way they look.just boils down to the individual.:D :D

well take ed coan for example...that guy aint fat by any means, and look at his muscles, they are as thick as you can get...does he have pretty lines of proportion and symmetry?...well no, but he looks intimidating...if i ever get really serious about powerlifting, my big focus will be strength over looks, because that's what matters:)
