DL Problem

Hey Blaz, you could try elevating the weight set/ bar, something like 2-3"or even 4"off the floor.Work him up in reps and then start moving it down 1" at a time till he can do it off the floor. I read that this is how a lot of the Finns used to do it. I ve done it and it works very well for me.

Not a bad idea either.

Thanks!

Thanks guys. Its amazing sometimes how you can work at a problem like mad but still come to the same (wrong) conclusion. ;)

It might also be time to introduce him to some bands.

Thanks!

just a thought but if it was just a mental thing and when he sees 500 on the bar it messes him up then instead of normal band deadlifts you could try reverse band deads and maybe that would help the mental side of it because he will be putting 500+ on the bar for his sets even though he isnt physically lifting 500...

Try doing a blind max with him. Either don't let him look at the plates or do something like use two 25's on the end so he can only see the 4 wheels on there. A lot of it is probably a mental block about the weight and not a strength issue at all. First time I ever blind maxed my bench I crushed my old pr by 25lbs.

Good idea. That's why I tried the kg plates, but in retrospect, they are all the same diameter and could have caused the same problem.

I'd say defecits and make sure he isn't doing the 405x12 and 475x4 before the 500. Pull singles up to that point in 50lb increments. Maybe two weeks between deads. IDK if it is acceptable, but an ammonia cap may be all he needs to realize that he can do it.
