Dieting Questions

I'm a pretty big guy and currently dieting and working out daily.

The problem with my diet is not the calories I consume, but the type of calories I consume. I keep a food log and I make sure not to exceed my caloric intake, but the food type served in my college cafeterias isn't exactly "healthy"

I try to do my staying away from the really bad food, but I was just wondering if weight loss is still effective if I don't eat ideal healthy food but still stay under my calorie limit and work out daily?

FYI: I do not really eat burgers, fries, but I'll occasionally eat pizza and some other things but I definitely couldn't just eat salads/wraps everyday.

I work the overnight security shift for a few weeks at my college right now but when im not what ill do is ill bring a cooler with my stuff cooked in it. Ill find a microwave and heat it up.

Ppl may look at you funny while you are eating tuna and chickn or steak or w/e but thats when you let your physique do the talking :)

So if there is a way you can do that i suggest trying that

Unless your aiming for competition shape, there is no reason you cannot get 8-10% bf with some carbs (indeed, even 50-55% carb intake) , providing you exercise. You don't have to eat just salads, but i would suggest that if you take sandwiches to work, that you use whole grain bread, and healthy meats (poultry, salmon, tuna or lean cuts of meat).

Force yourself to try all healthy carbs - oats, barley, beans, sweet potatoes, brown rice, corn - and see whether you like them. I can't really understand how anyone could not enjoy the taste of sweet potatoes or corn for example.

There are also some delicious fiberous vegetables (pumpkin, onions, green peppers, carrots) which will make the other vegetables (brocolli, cauliflower) palatable. The only thing I can't make myself eat is brussel sprouts.

Also, while tuna is dry, give salmon or other fish a go, and simply add herbs, garlic or some other low kj flavouring to chicken breasts.

Thing is, I do like most of those foods. The problem is that I have no control over what they provide us to eat at the cafeteria, so oftentimes I just can't eat foods that are "healthy" and I'm eating small portions of essentially junk food so that I ensure I am under my caloric intake.
