I usually eat low-carb(20-30 gr.)
I don't worry about fat just carbs.
I love the meals I eat...Chef salad, taco salads, grilled shrimp and salmon w/ asparagus.
And since I 'm in Greece it is much easier to do Low-carb than Low-fat.
They don't have low-fat products like America has.
I thought about doing a moderate carb diet(100gr.), lower fat diet(40 gr.). My fat grams now while on lo-carb is 120gr. per day., sometimes less.
I notice that my appetite(I'm not in ketosis, not really looking to get there...over it) is very strong because I'm working out hard and my strength has almost doubled it seems in just three mths.(which is strange and totally amazing).
What I've been doing is this....I'll low carb for 6 days no cheats(I don't plan to cheat ever, it just happens and usually by the 6th day I notice). Then on a day after I work out I'll just totally give in and start eating every carb in the house( before I do that I'll take 1 glucophage, 'cause I know after low-carb I won't be as sensitive to insulin)...I then consume all the carbs I want for that day only.
The next day my muscles are so full and I'm noticably stronger(my boyfriend comments" you handle the weights w/ more power"), and I feel incredibly strong. In fact I lift heavier and can do more reps.
This happens only when I carb deplete and then replenish. If I constantly eat carbs it doesn't work this way.
Now why am I confused? Well, I want to lose fat but I can't 'cause my calories are so high and I've tried for weeks to get them lower and I can't I'm truly hungry. I don't want to go off of low-carb 'cause then I'll be stuffing my face w/ oatmeal and peaches and rice cakes, pretzels all that carby rubbish.
Everyone's like 1/2 c. of oatmeal for breakfast and 6 egg whites.
If I were eating carbs I'd have 1 cup of oatmeal w/ water and peaches in a protein shake made w/ water.
Then 2 hours later my head would be in an ice cream carton.
I want to lose fat on low carb(keep in mind my huge appetite and I'm not looking to get into ketosis 'cause I tend to carb-up for a day ).
One of my staples is a huge chef salad: 2 cups Romaine lettuce, ham, cheese, boiled egg and a half cup of full fat russian dressing(can not find lower fat version and most of there dressings have hi-carbs). The dressing alone is like 45 grams of fat the ham, cheese and egg is like 30 grams of fat, and carbs around 15 grams.
I need to find a way to lower fat w/ out letting in too many extra carbs and sugar. If I made my own dressing using lite mayo the carb count would be double and still fairly high in fat.
Maybe I should get into ketosis so my appetite would deminish and I wouldn't have to worry about eating so much fat 'cause I'd have no appetite anyway.
What would you recommend?
I'm 22yrs.,5'8", 135lbs.
On every exercise I do now my strength has increased 30-50% from 1 year ago and I'm very pissed 'cause I can't hardly fit into my nice clothes anymore, I almost live in my adidas pants now.
Yet I'm addicted to weights and will never go back to being a cardio queen.
Any help with this?
