Did the 5X5 for 6 Weeks: Here's Some Results

Kid Dynamite

I started this on October 14 and finished yesterday, Nov 22. Here's some results.

-Weight went up about 5 lbs in the first 5 weeks
-Waist stayed at 32 inches
-Squats: Went up 25 lbs.
-Deadlifts: Went up 30 lbs.
-BenchPress: Went up 25 lbs.
-MilitaryPress: Went up 25 lbs.
-StraightLeg DL's: Went up 10 lbs.
-BOver Rows: Went up 5 lbs

I'm not sure what happend with the rows (I had some shoulder problems and it affects how well I can do them) but everything else was good. Squats could have gone up more, but I started going lower on them, and deads didn't start heavy until the 3rd week, but they went up 10 lbs. every week.
My diet wasn't too good (good food but not enough cals, except on weekends) and I wasn't getting enough sleep, but I still thought this was pretty good progress.

Thanks man.
Routine wise, I'm probably gonna up the volume alot. I'm thinking of a plan I did last year w/a basic 4 day split, but I only take rest days when I need them. Last time I did it I gained about 15 lbs. in just under 3 months. I just need to get the food.

Great results!

those are great results!

im confused on the SL DL's though. could be a matter of the order in which you did stuff, but that number should have gone up a bit more IMO.

but overall, your lifts made some great jumps.

5lbs in 5 weeks is about right on for gaining muscle. anything more than that and you could pack on some fat as well. the fact that your waist stayed the same is promising.

GREAT JOB!!!!!

Kid Dynamite, nice results... Couldja tell me what your diet looked like while on this routine? Were you getting enough protein? You must've not eaten that much considering you didn't add any size to your waist.

Yeah, I should have clarified on those. I was doing an all out 20-rep set, and I'd only move the weight up when I'd complete 15 or more straight before having to put the bar down for a few seconds. I started at 175 and got 11 reps, then 3, 3 and 3. The highest I finished at was 185 for 15, then 5. So I'm not sure how much this weight actually went up in terms of 5X5 training, but as an estimate I'd say at least 20 lbs.

Legion-
Like I said, my diet kind of sucked. Most Mondays through Fridays I'd have egg whites w/a few yolks and oats in the morning, then eat maybe a sweet potato and some chicken before I lifted. Post WO was 30 - 40g whey and some high gi carbs, another meal and then before I went to sleep I'd have 1/3lb. beef (fairly lean) w/ alotta vegetables. I'd also add peanut butter just for the extra cals.
When I had the chance to eat alot, I always would. A few weekends I went home from school and just ate whatever, and alot of it. My protein was too low during the week, maybe about 150/g day tops, with overall cals pretty low, too. Luckily the semester is almost over, so I can start working more and have some more money to buy food, which was my big obstacle for the past months.
Oh yeah, my bf% was about 7 starting and in the past 6 weeks the only measurement that went up at all was abdominal, so at least I know I gained some muscle.
Thanks again for the good words fellas.-Dynamite
