dextrose

the dextrose i have from the protein factory is 1/3 cup - 160 cals
40 carbs
40 sugars

If you dont want dextrose as postworkout high gi carb, just choose another high gi carb. Although dextrose is the best ( its absorbed the fastest, due to its thin powder form) its not the be all, end all of high gi carbs. Ricke cakes, breakfast cereals and even honey will do the trick.

I advise against dairy and o.j. simply because both have low g.i ratings and poor at spiking insulin

I currently drink 8 oz of OJ with glutamine, creatine and 400 mg of ALA mixed in postworkout. Is that a good start?
plus the acid in OJ will kill the effects of the glutamine and creatine. if you want fruit juice after you lift go with somthing along the lines of apple juice or cranapple.

there is no problem with ingesting creatine with acidic juices. do some research on the Krebs Cycle and you will understand why.

i think fruit juices stink as a postworkout carb as does fruit. Most fruit juices dont have a terribley high GI so wont dont much for spiking insulin levels and fructose is inefficient at replacing glycogen loss within the muscle.

Im not sure on the GI of all gruit juices, but i know OJ and Apple juice both are modest to low on the Glycemic index. I would definately just opt for gatorade or any other premade carb/energy drink if your looking for convience.

As far as getting 50 grams of dextrose measured out, i suggest you get the nutritional label claims or a print out from whatever somapny you purchase it from.

moosecles. I posted a mertic/standard conversion site under the diet board. This will help you convert it into teaspoons, ounces...

why do people keep thinking honey is good for post workout it sucks!!!! 50 percent fruictose!!! and its not high on the G I rating

Since this thread is here, I'll shoot out a dextrose question of my own.... When I was on creatine, I took roughly 50g of dextrose with it, post-workout. When I stopped the creatine, I stopped the dextrose. Should I still take dextrose post-workout every time regardless?

In the hour or two after a workout, I have a normal breakfast (cereal, milk, toast w/ peanut butter), usually some protein oatmeal, sometimes a small shake as well.

post workout carbs are essential to the recuperation process. they should always be consumed after training with weights even while on a cutting cycle.

the post workout protein drink should have a 1:3 ratio of protein to carbs using about 16-20 grams of whey and 75 grams of simple high GI/GR carbs like dextrose or maltodextrin. you can also put your creatine and glutamine in this drink as well.
