dealing with pregnancy cravings

dont go nuts at me

To those concerned that I am dieting, I AM NOT!!!!!! I just wanted to get some input on how to keep a balanced healthy diet while pregnant. I already have two healthy girls, so I'm not an idiot!!! I am not trying to lose weight or control calories, so don't freak out and fear that I am a weight-phobic irresponsible mum-to-be. And as for my q re ab exercises, I had heard from good sources that isometric holds are fine to keep muscle tone, so wondered if you guys agreed. Thanks for the info but DON'T WORRY SO MUCH ABOUT ME...BTW I am a psychologist, so am pretty onto it re going nuts or stressiing!!!

Whoa! Frankly I wouldn't have offered any advice, EXCEPT you were posting about cutting your carbs to 10% of your total intake, based on some pretty lack-luster advice from someone on the Diet board. Not what anyone would consider a balanced healthy diet for a pregnant woman.

Maybe if your posts were a tich more detailed, you wouldn't get such strong responses.

If you've been through this twice before, what do you want to do differently?

Pesonally, I think the outpouring of concern from absolutly total strangers is a pretty great thing.

Umm, psychologists are the nuttiest ppl going!!! :D
;) :p

I don't think generalisations are that accurate...a lot of people say bodybuilders are vain self-absorbed empty-heads!!! So I will let your comment slide.

This pregnancy is different because it is the first one where I have been free of eating disorders...did you all get that...FREE!!!!! Yes I am 100% cured with no hang-ups, so don't start thinking "oh, she is still not quite right" cos I definitely am. I knew the 10% carbs was a bit drastic, which is why I posted it for confirmation from some other people.

Concern is great and I really appreciate it, but I was starting to feel like you guys thought I was a complete idiot who would risk their baby's health for their figure..no effing way!!!

oh yeah ....

I forgot to add that my concern was because I was aware I am eating mostly carbs, and wanted to keep up a good protein intake for Bubs growth, as well as decent fat intake,. and have been struggling to eat foods that fall into those categories

Don't be so uptight, I was only joking. Here's an icecube:cold:
As for your pregnancy, I never judged you, it's just my immediate reaction, being a mother of 3, was that you weren't lacking in common sense and that you were healthy.

Nobody was jumping all over and I am sorry that you felt judged. I only know what I read and from what I read your situation seemed to be one that I (only speaking for myself) would be concerned about.

I am glad that you are over the eating disorder (some of all carry it with us FOREVER.....not that we are still engaging in the behaviour, but the thought does creep into our heads from time to time).

I have had a few rugrats myself and I understand the desire to try not to let things "get out of control" so to speak.....I always called it "damage control" hehehehe.

Please put your back down and retract your claws, I for one (as I AM 100% SURE ABOUT ALL OF THOSE WHO POSTED BEFORE ME) am not here to judge, make fun of, or trash somebody who is seeking help and/of info.....and beleive me when I say - I KNOW HOW IT FEELS TO HAVE PEOPLE JUMP DOWN YOUR THROAT!....as I have had to put the boxing gloves on (here and in other forums) on more than one occasion...but that's fine by me - that which does not destroy me only makes me stronger!

So whaddaya say?.....can we be friends and play nice?:p

Calm down hon. Some of us are just joking with you. The way your original post read it caused us some concern. Your hormones are raging right now - my poor DH got his ass chewed every day of my first trimester so I know you don't have much of a sense of humor right now. Just know that we want the best for you and your baby.

:) emmab:) Cravings are tough! I ate ranch dressing on everything. The no veggie thing is tough cuz you know your little one needs that stuff. Make sure you take your prenatals and maybe check out juice plus. I haven't tried juiceplus personally, but it's the talk of the mom to be exercise classes. Have fun and give in...it's the only time you can leave baskin robbins at 9am weighing 50 pounds over your normal weight and everyone smiles! I gained 50, lost it all in 10weeks, then lost another 15. (I had an 11 pounder via c-section) I plan on competing in 2 shows in july and I am just so happy that I've got my body (somewhat) i want to show the world! I never did the ratio thing a ma jig in pregnancy. There are great message boards on about.com for pregnancy, I lived there the whole 9 (10) months. Good luck and enjoy your soup and crackers!
Also, if you have a La Madeline near you, the tomato cream soup was like a drug to me my first trimester!

my sense of humour is still very much intact, and I assure you my reaction wasn't hormonally driven. It would be easier if jokes were obviously indicated as such, but I am still learning this system
