Dead lifts... sticking point at the bottom...?

Try doing your deads with 25 ibs plates... yeah I know you can only get about 500 ibs on the bar that way, but try it, even with a lighter weight than you normally use. Once you go back to doing it with 45's they weight should feel alot lighter breaking it off the floor. just my 2 cc's...

How about just working that part of your deadlift. You don't need to go through the entire ROM all the time. Just work on your lifts, get it a few inches off the ground, and then bring it back down.

You can even do functional isometrics, if you can set it up. Might be hard with deads though.

bands? what are bands?

Sofa, on speed days we use bands and chains for
Accomodating Resistance.

This video is a Reverse Band Deadlift and we use it to train the lockout. For training the bottom part of the lift, it's the same idea, only choked at the floor. You can also just drape chains over the end of the barbell. We also do straight pulls for speed without the AR, and these can also be done off of a box or mats, as someone else suggested, to work the bottom of the lifts.

...and as always, GMs, GMs, GMs. :)

I agree with the bands spatts.

If you don't have bands, use matts or start using 25 or 35 lbs plates instead of 45's to pull from a lower point than normal.

I'm not so sure i agree with using bands...this will just make his weakest part of the lift weaker.

Bulldog, please explain yourself. Using bands has made me nothing but faster and stronger. The whole point of my training is to bring up my weaknesses. Thousands of powerlifters wouldn't be doing it if it made them weaker.

Oh, I don't disagree with using bands altogether. If you're trying to add weight to work your lock-out with higher weights, then yes, bands are awesome for that. Obviously everyone can work with heavier weights at the lockout position, so there is a need to use bands, and functional isometrics, etc...

But he's saying that his weakness is at the bottom of the lift, and making that part easier isn't going to help him strengthen this part of the lift.

Choking bands at the bottom will force him to use speed to blast though the tension. Yes, the tension will increase more as he goes up, but the tension for the entire lift is higher too. One of the reasons you leave the chain long enough to touch the floor is that it will provide resistance from the very start, and never totally let off. Reverse band deads, even though they train the lockout, force you to take advantage of speed off the floor so that you DON'T get stuck when the bands let off.

In otherwords, we don't just use AR for lockouts.
