I think the thinner you are the more likely you will scrape your shins, me being 275-I start with the bar away from my shins because my legs and belly fight for the same space lol, now sumo I can get real close to the bar and scrape the crap out of myself. Either way I hit my thighs at the top pretty good, thicker legs do that also and put the bar farther away from your center of gravity making it harder for you to pull.
