Dead Lifting Question?

I'm doing DL's and having a time scraping my shin.

I've read a lot about it and I thought you were suppose to keep
the bar close to your legs.

Any suggestions??

Thanks Guys :fro:

The shins scrapes are normal, many leave with blood running down them after pulling.

Think of them as battle scars....like stretch marks, they are something to be proud of.....if they gush and it bothers you, next time you might wanna try rubbing some baby powder on your shins so the bar sort of slides up

That's a good sign. My shins usually bleed too. It means your form is good, because you're keeping the bar nice and tight to your body. If the bar's too far away from your body, it's not as efficient, and you put more strain on your lower back than you need to.

There's not much you can do but suck it up. Baby powder all over the shins is what we do in competitions, and it helps a bit, but don't get any on the gripping side of your hands.

Ever hear the phrase, "blood, sweat & tears"? Suck it up baby and welcome to the club!! I have scabs on my shin that haven't healed in over 10 weeks cuz' I keep scraping over them!!

As mentioned, your form is good and your staying close and tight. They do make shin guards for DL's, not sure where to pick them up though. Also I have seen some competitors use tall tube socks, they prolly have the shin guards under them as well.

You scrape your shins when pulling conventional? Starting with the bar out in front of me and pulling back I never hit my shins.

Now pulling sumo is a different story entirely...

Sumo yes, but I suck at sumo=no hip flexibility, conventional no.

I figured that was what you meant. Wanted to make sure everyone else knew also.
