True. I guess due to the extended breaks throughtout the day and breaks between lifts (which would prevent extensive muscle breakdown), plus the genetics passed on from a father who probably did the same thing. But I also think that they are a whole different breed than the soldier and the BBer. They seem to be the "happy medium" between the 2. Meaning POSSIBLY better muscle endurance than a BBer but POSSIBLY less than a soldier, and POSSIBLY better strength and mass than a soldier but POSSIBLY less than a BBer.

The "POSSIBLY" were to imphasize that is usually true but not consistent throughout. Just wanted to be clear. :)

a soldier 'possibly' having more endurance than a BB? some pro bodybuilders sweat when they eat and gasp for air between sentences.

two things about the military people that you have to realize is that
a) they are active all day long and not sedentary; and
b) they aren't fed very well, nor do they get time to eat that often througout the day.

i think these three things play a big part in their physical make-up. those that are serious about putting on size in the military undergo the same conditions, but primarily ramp up the eating and do put on considerable size.

True. I would think, the guys in the military who do put on size while active, would see much better gains with added rest. All statements I have made do have exceptions tho, so you are completely right, and I beleive you whole heartedly. I do think there is such a thing as overtraining in a BBing sense so that you make the "best" possible gains, not just gains.

i'm sure overtraining is possible, for example i did back and bis yesterday and my bis are killing me today. i wouldn't want to lift arms to save my life, but if i did i don't know how much it would hurt their development. it might, however, cause me to fuck up my form and injure myself and that would be one hell of a blow to their development.

wish we knew for sure on some of this stuff. it's hard to believe half of what you read. the human body is so amazing and different from one person to the next that it often keeps even the experts guessing.

I think overtraining is a combination of hard training and lack of rest and real food.

Having just spent a week doing a military exercise. I noticed that the amount of food you get is far to little to support an overly big mass. When i spent 12 months in the army 5 years ago. I had less mass, and didnt have to eat as much. But now, man i ate 24 proteinbars over the course of 5 days. In addition to the three squares a day and all i could scavenge from breakfast to make lunch with. And i felt like shit when i came home.

excellent question Poink. I've wondered about that same thing before. I could never imagine how the hell those guys could go that much work everyday and sleep like 6 hours a night and still actually improve. All I could come up with is that the dudes with inferior genetics wash out, so you're left with the guys blessed with the genetics to tolerate that amount of work.

Coverguy, how many guys crash and burn in basic?

it's not really about genetics, it is about whether or not they have the drive and motivation.

true, but look at farmboys in Nebraska and other midwestern states. they don't lift weights, just bales of hay and tractor parts all day long. they're big as fuck.

Omaha beef is great stuff. Plus eating that and potatoes, oatmeal, corn, and lots of fried food gives enough calories to maintain the size. Now ask one of them to go do a 12 mile forced march and they would keel over. My family up until my brother and I were on the farm. Whereas they are all big, they are also not lean at all.

Cheers,
