pt was an absolute bitch. i have very unfond memories of 0430 reveille followed by "the daily seven" (exercises done in group, supposed to be 7 but normally more. some include, mountain climbers, push-ups, flutter kicks, etc...) this would lead to a run, normally anywhere from 3-10 miles (at artillery school we would run approx. 7-9 miles on friday in formation and anybody who fell out of the run didn't get liberty over the weekend and was confined to the barracks with extra duties). after the run, we would head to a pull-up bar for multiple max sets of pull ups, then to the pits where we would do multiple supersets of push ups and crunches.

crazy shit, but good.

Gimme' some, PT, Good for you, Good for me!
Oooohrahhh!!! Oooohrahhh!!!

also fun were the 3-5 mile formation runs (in boots and utes) to the obstacle course that we would run several times, and then the run back. followed by the pulls, push-ups and crunches.

this is why i cant help but laugh whenever i read some post like, 'shit dood! you're doing 15 sets AND cardio on the SAME DAY?! OH MY GOD! you're overtraining!"

yeah, i think overtraining can be a bunch of bs. look at people who work manual labor like farm hands and construction workers. they're working their muscles all day long and end up being jacked.

i often noted this myself, but when i did a few sets of abs everyday as a warmup, i had everyone and their mother telling me to stop

im guessing that there must be some scientific evidence supporting overtraining though

I wouldn't say overtraining was bs, considering the build of a military versus bodybuilders. Most soldiers sport the lean proportionate look not a lot of mass, and bodybuilding is based on mass. You can break the muscle down far enough so that it doesn't grow, which is what I think is meant by overtraining. Bodybuilders can't keep thier mass and do PT, as soldiers can't do PT and grow the mass of a BB.

true, but look at farmboys in Nebraska and other midwestern states. they don't lift weights, just bales of hay and tractor parts all day long. they're big as fuck.

True. I guess due to the extended breaks throughtout the day and breaks between lifts (which would prevent extensive muscle breakdown), plus the genetics passed on from a father who probably did the same thing. But I also think that they are a whole different breed than the soldier and the BBer. They seem to be the "happy medium" between the 2. Meaning POSSIBLY better muscle endurance than a BBer but POSSIBLY less than a soldier, and POSSIBLY better strength and mass than a soldier but POSSIBLY less than a BBer.

The "POSSIBLY" were to imphasize that is usually true but not consistent throughout. Just wanted to be clear. :)
