Competition bench?

What are the dimensions for a competition bench?

I've heard several different things, but I'd like to know if there's a standard.

good thing to find out, if you are training on a bench that is way off from a competition bench it will certainly have a different FEEL come meet day

Did a google search and found this info on the AAU Site.

Length: 2100mm (82.67")
Height: 450-500mm (17.71" to 19.68")
Width: 610mm (24.01")

Still trying to find the info for other federations.

Just about every federation has the same specs. I am not sure what the AAU has listed, but that seems WAY off. 24" wide? A 2 foot wide bench? Not likely

Height is pretty much the same anywhere you go. IPA, IPF, APA, etc.

16.5" to 17.75" tall (42-45cm) - (from the ground, to the top of the padded surface, when the surface is UNCOMPRESSED)

Width will be 11.5" to 12 5/8"

Length of the entire pad will not be less than 48" ...usually they are around 50 for a standard comp bench.

I think you will see most every rule book list these same rules.
If you look on my website on my links page, I have the links to the various federations. Most of the federation websites have online rule books that list the specifics.

Hope this helps.

Better yet, if you have a particular meet you are going to, call the meet director and ask them about the equipment they will be using.

Good info guys, I appreciate it.

I'm looking at buying equipment, and a lot of the benches are 19" high. Finding the specs, and then finding a bench that meets those specs seems to be tricky.

Are you looking at flat benches to go inside of a power rack, or an actual competiton bench?

Most general exercise flat benches are around 20" tall, which sucks for any type of competition purpose. You may want to check www.elitefts.com with Dave Tate. I am pretty sure he sells a flat bench to go in a power rack, which is around the height you need.

Yeah, was just looking there. They sell a bench with a rack, but don't seem to sell the bench separately.

I'm going to email Dave Tate per Hannibal's suggestion, and see what he says.
