Are there any negative effects on the body from chewing gum? I am wondering about the chemicals that are released from the actual gum that are mixed in with your saliva and eventually swallowed.
I haven't read/heard/experienced anything negative and I chew a hell of a lot of gum. I particularly like some Jolt gum before training...same amount of caffeine as a cup of coffee
I'm not sure of the technicality of this, however I would have suspected gums to contain a hell lot of artificial sugars. For me, none of that please. Also chewing gum tires out my jaws.
if you're going to chew gum, get some with xylitol in it. xylitol stops the cavity-causing bacteria in your mouth from being able to absorb sugar and create cavities. I use the altoids sugar free original chewing gum (the other altoid ones don't have xylitol tho).
