Hi!

What's the "correct" position to lower the bar/db's to, when doing chestpresses? i lower them to my nipples and then press, and i've always done so, however everyone else seem to be lowering them a lot higher on the chest.... which is correct?

i've always believed that if you place them too high on the chest it'll put the load on the delts and increasing the risk of a shoulder injury...
 
Everybody is different, as long as it’s not hurting yourself you’re most likely doing it correctly. Too high or too low will put allot of stress on the anterior deltoid and your rotor cuffs.
 
Ingram is right. I personally think U should go down and touch ure chest with the bb and when using the db try going a little bit lower, but not to low so it starts to hurt.....
 
Hi! thanks for the replies, but to clarify it i see i have to rephrase myself, i dont mean how deep to go, but rather how far down the chest if you understand what i mean, elbows at 45 degrees out is what i'm doing now, but i see lots of people having them almost 90 degrees (ie almost straight out the sides)
 
i was told in a weight training PE class to go down all the way, and have the bar touch your chest right at that point where your rib cage comes together (at bottom of sternum). hth
 
more than where you touch the bar you need to space your hands wider.....you'll feel it more in your chest,touching the bar to high will make your shoulders have to rotate more and could cause you an injury......
