what do you mean we want big government? i dont see that at all. we want big military make big boom in middle east. i have always been a fan of having a powerful military. now i want them to use it. i dont see how you get the idea that conservatives want more government now.

1)airline bailout
2)dislocated workers aid
3)antiterrorism bill-sounds good, but will just lead to more government involvement in my life and more restriction of civil liberties.

As I am sure that you know already, Alexis de Tocqueville has stated that war is an excellent means by which the government can oppress the people. War (or the threat thereof) is also related to higher taxes. I would be very wary in the way that this administration proceeds in this matter.

True, and Tocqueville also voiced great concern about the curtailment of liberties.....I wonder what he would think about the liberties that are about to be curtailed as a result of this war.

1 and 2 are just a short term fix to a huge sudden problem. its not a long term plan for government expansion. as far as anti terrorism is concerned, i want our military to go to town on them. then we dont need to worry about them intruding on our lives any more.

But anyway, to the issue at hand: the airline industry would have just went into Chapter 11 debt reorganization, like all other American businesses do, why do they get special treatment?

And don't say that they would have all shut down....they wouldn't have....

You are right. This is BS everyone is standing in line waiting for their handout from the gov. My fiance work(ed) for United Airlines. They took her tax $$$ so they could bail out these poorly run, inefficient multi-billion dollar corporations so they could turn around and lay off the union employees that actually do some work (mechanics, ticket agents etc.), while the people who make alot more money and whose job function is to push a pencil from 1 side of the desk to the other all kept their jobs. These corporations we having a bad year way before 9/11 due to poor management practices that had been occurring for years.

Welcome back huge deficits, high unemployment and uncertain economic times. Look whats happened in the last year:

1) The chinks knocked down 1 of our spy planes and wouldn't give it back.
2) The economy shit the bed (long before 9/11)
3) The stock market shit the bed (long before 9/11)
4) Some dude named Osama blew up our shit, and we are not doing anything about it.

Remarkebly people think Bush is doing a great job!!! I hope the next 3 years are a little better than the first.

I think it comes down to "where" government should play bigger roles. In some cases the government is needed to keep people from having the SHIT fleeced out of them. Consider a company that sells an item, this item is VITAL to everyday needs and people have no choice but to buy this "item". Well, this company is the only one who sells this item, and decides to jack the price out of all reasonable proportions.......that's when govenrment is needed. Than there's other areas where goverment needs to "know it's role". I totally agree with bailing out the airline industry, our economy is vital to it.......if all airlines went into bankruptsy at the same time, it would be a disaster.
