Cert question....

Thanks to my recent surgeries, I've lost my law enforcement career, so I figured I'd make my other passion my career for a while.

Ideally I'd like to get my CSCS cert. to deal with a higher level of clientele, and work in an environment which interests me much more than teaching overweight housewives how to use pink stability balls.

I know CSCS requires a degree, but does the degree need to be within a related field. I have degrees in two unrelated fields, and I assume they won't help. Am I wrong here...I hope:).

Based upon some research, my schedule, and a couple recommendations, I'm in the process of getting an ISSA cert. right now. Am I starting in the right direction?

I don't just want a piece of paper from a box of Cracker Jacks saying I know my shit like most PT schmucks. I've found that I actually know a lot more than all but one trainer at my gym, which is pretty sad, because in my opinion, I don't know shit, and(after 10 years) I'm just beginning to learn the complexities of this game. I really want to learn as much as possible, be recognized for that, and really help motivated people whom have as much passion as I do for iron.

Is my approach right? Should I be channeling my efforts in another direction?

whether or not ur approach is right i certainly think ur goal is int he right direction!!!!!!! ur an inspiration to me with ur desire to help people. keep it up bro

ISSA is a good start. good foundation.

CSCS is pretty much degree related. sorry. ive been wanting to take it for a while, i dont even think experience hours are recognized. (i could be wrong)

i feel the same way you do about training people who share my passion compared to those who just want to "tone"

but if thats going to be your profession than you have to face facts.......80% of people or more who hire personal trainers are looking to tone and not to be the next ronnie coleman, or scott mendelson.

kinda sucks huh....

That's pretty funny bro, because I am in law enforcement now, and am considering going to school soon to study some type of physical fitness or therapy degree...for the same reasons and desires as you mentioned.
Good luck bro! I know for me, I have NO CLUE where to even start

Thanks guys

MnFguy, good luck with it bro. I guess I have to go back to school again also.:)

Gymtime, I always have wanted to be a clown. I even wear a big red nose and squeeky shoes around the house sometimes. I tried to get into the business, but some dingus in Chandler has the monopoly on being the clown in this area.

Dude, you would suck as a clown.

Hey...I managed to procure a week's pass at Golds. PM me when you can bro.
