cd burner

Dumb question but I have no clue.
I have a laptop so I want to get an external cd burner.
Question, not that I would, but if someone burns MP3's onto a disk, can you paly it on a regular cd player? I see these cd players that say mp3 compatible? DO I need a special cd player?

You can't play them on any old CD player. Only those that are specifically mp3 compatible will play mp3's. And even then there can be problems. My mp3 cd player is quite picky as to what CD's it decides to play.
