Can someone explain to me, in scientific terms, when the body goes into a catoblic state (muscle catabolism). Not looking for general ideas, but as specific as possible instances when you're body becomes catabolic and eats your muscle. Thanks.

When you are over-trained, you don't eat enough protein to support muscular growth along w/carbs and fats for energy purposes, and also when your body is not in the state of a positive nitrogen balance. There are more, those are a few.

I explained nitro balance about a week ago, if you can find the thread

To add to sc's list...pyschologic stress can influence catabolism, as can lack of sleep, alcohol or a long list of drugs. I believe dehydration will also cause (or favor) catabolism. Hormones are very influencial, test, IGF-1, GH etc are anabolic, cortisol is the major catabolic hormone, but leukotrines, cytokines and a variety of other hormones can effect muscle catabolism.
