Im on a diet now(like 2500-3000)calories per day & am losing weight pretty rapidly after only a week doing this. I do this every once & awhile to cut up & am lucky since I can put on weight & take it off quite easily. The thing is is that I was daydreaming at the gym the other day & it started to hit me that cardio is a waste of time. I usually do a light cardio due to terrible shin splints, and am burning about 200 cals per 25 minute session. Anyway, it hit me that 200 cals is like a tall glass of friggin Orange Juice for Christs sake. I mean, I started to have a problem with my weight like 3 years ago & i never saw any decrease in BF until I cut my calories. That despite doing intense cardio for 30 minutes & burning like 400 cals every other day. My question is to you guys.....Do you think that it is even worth doing cardio if caloric intake vs. calories burned is basically what it boils down to? And the fact that even burning 400 caloried a day isn't jack if your taking in 6000-10000 cals. Any thoughts?

More power to you if you dont have to do cardio. Consider yourself one of the lucky few. even if you dont have to do it to lose weight, it might be a good idea to do a little to keep your heart healthy.

hmmm

Well my thoughts on cardio are that when done selectively at the appropiate times, you can get your body to burn calories from better sources then it normally would. In effect burning more calories from fat then from muscle protein breakdown.

Just have a look at the difference between natural bbers nowadays and naturals a while back i would say that one of the biggest differences is that we do cardio nowadays. Sure the supps and experience about food has gotten a lot better too but hey cardio sucks but it works my 2 cents.

P.s. 10000 cals??? wtf man

Yo dog. You have just spelled out the biggest myth in the fitness industry. I don't let any of my competitors do any cardio. Calories in calories out. All the cardio in the world is not going to help if you are eating 500 cal more than maintenence. And if you are dieting properly cardio will cause to mush muscle loss.

Good point. But as far as losing weight, it is quite insignificant if your diet is a joke--and really doesn't need to be done if your diet is tight. Would you agree with that? Remember now, your getting a good healthy heart while lifting too.

Cardio is for the heart. If you do it to lose fat, just work at a lower pulse rate and go for a longer time. Personally, I do cardio for my heart.

As far as diet goes....I was listening to an interview that was done with that chick from the last "Survivor" show---the one who was a personal trainer---she said that once she gets in the shape she wants to be in, that she will keep a good solid diet Monday-Friday, and eat what she wanted on the weekend. I thought this was a good idea. Again, only AFTER you reach your desired shape did she say to do this----its a good maintenance program----that is unless your traing for a show.

Some people refer to this as a cheat day. Ill bet the "whatever she wants" is not pizza and cheeseburgers What Im trying to say is yes you can carbload etc. But you still dont want to get carried away.
