Car people: Tires?!

I've trashed yet another set of tires :worried:

I have BFGoodrich, Michelin previously and the car guy was trying to get me to put the Continentals he had in stock on.

Anywho.

I really DRIVE my car and I love hugging my corners - just because I can and I enjoy it.

It's a 98 328i and if I recall the last set were 215/50/15 (?) (up from the original 205s)

Ideas?
Suggestions?
Experiences?

For performance go with bridgestone, goodrich, or pireli. For long lasting go with Michelin. As for Continental, go back and laugh at that guy.

All performance tires will use a soft rubber compound for the tread, the reason why they don't last as long as regular passenger tires.

True story - I told them to take my rear driver tire and swap it with the new full sized spare and he calls me back and he's like YOU REALLY NEED NEW TIRES and I'm like yah I know, just switch the tires.

He says, "well, the spare is on a steel rim".

I bit my tongue from belting out "then switch it DEAR HENRY, DEAR HENRY, JUST SWITCH IT".

But I was good, humored his continential suggestion and asked him when my car would be ready.

omfg....hole in the bucket reference. that was the epitome of awesomeness because it was both a perfect parallel and because it was so obscure.

I'm glad some shares/understands my level of dementedness.

if the thing can handle it, get some wider wheels and put some 225 tires on it. Cornering ability will skyrocket

What i do is go to tirerack.com or discounttiredirect.com and just buy the cheapest tire they have in my size, which is usually a pretty decent tire. Then I have them put on locally.

I actually have a buddy that has his own tire changer and balancer, so it's free, but it's usually like $8-12/tire to have them mounted and balanced at a shop. With shipping and everything it still works out cheaper than buying them from a shop.

I also heard that Costco/Sam's Club is the best place to get tires for really cheap. Their selection is very limited though.
