Can someone tell me why the price of protein has gone up 60%?

As i'm making and bottling my shakes for the day, I'm pondering why the same protein i was paying 25-28 bucks for 5 lbs is now 37 dollars as of a month or two ago.

i buy it locally, but the prices are comparable to the internet at the store i buy.

considering many bodybuilders are not exactly millionaires, and spend hundreds of dollars a month on sups already..
that's an insane spike

I've heard several reasons. Drought in certain areas which caused increased milk prices in general, which in turn impacts Casein and Whey prices. Also I've heard increasing gas prices have an effect (I don't really but that one). Plus you have to wonder if a certain % of the hike might companies capitalizing on the opportunity? Supply & demand?

Hmmm. I'm interested to hear more opinions.
