It depends on the girl and how she presents it - at least as far as how I view her is concerned. If the girl is really cool and talks about her past openly and with intelligence, even the mistakes (and the stuff she labels as "mistakes" or whatever aren't TOO far out there for me), then I have always found I gain respect for her and have no problem getting past it. It's the girls who don't even seem to undertsand themselves, let alone their behavior, that I think of as "sluts" gratifying their base urges with no foresight to the future or who they imagine themselves one day becoming.
As far as generalizations, I doubt anyone will ever completely escape their past. I can handle a few errors in judgement so long as I know about them and can respect the person for what they took away from the experiences. Usually though, I hear somethign about a girl, am turned off, and then when I hear her talk about only end up losing more respect for her. A person's ability to learn is huge to me I'd say.
