Calves and weights used

Try this;
squat down in the position of a baseball catcher and start doing calf raises. Its unusual but you may have sucess with it and you can do them anywhere

Good ideas guys...I'll give them a try...

The problem with this exercise is that it hits the soleus muscle (walking muscle) more, rather than the gastrocs (sprinting and jumping muscle)

This will give an idea where to put the block of wood. Or you can just buy the strength shoe - but its expensive. Oh and don't do plyometrics or jump around in em, sure fire way to get injuries.

I also suggest getting some tyre material and glue them under the wooden block for grip.

Or you can buy some of the cheaper Strength shoe clones like the Jump Soles which strap onto any shoe you have.

explosive sprinting and starfi hopping,

Stair hopping is put the ends of you feet on the edge of the stairs like you are doing calf raises and then literally hop up to the next step using only your calves, To creatr that much force you'll find you will have to go all the way down and explode up.
