buying the meat behind the counter

just wandering what anyones opinion on buying the lunch meat behind the counter vs buying pre packaged slimy lunch meat....

i think we all know it usually tastes better, buying the more expensive stuff that they cut and weigh, but is it more healthy cuz i never get to see the nutrition facts.
thanks

I buy the cheap presliced stuff. Well actually I don't buy it my GF does. I don't think it matters that much.

i'd say the packaged meat has some added preservatives that probably aren't great for you but i don't think that would really matter if its just like 1-2 sandwiches a day...thats just my hypothesis though

save your money, the economy is down and we should all start saving back a little nest egg
***i like to call it, "in case shit happens money"

Too much sodium and preservatives for me. It won't kill you, but there is better options. You'd be better off buying whole turkey breast or sirloin tip and slicing your own lunch meat. This might not be economical though.

they are both about the same. there are a few exceptions. go to a health food store and read the ingredients on the packaged stuff. some of them are ok.

ya i was hoping that they would have less sodium and preservatives then the prepackaged meat.

taste, texture, and even its looks appear to be healthier.

and i can pay about 12 bucks for just a pound and a half easily.

chicken breast is a lot cheaper than that buy a few lbs boil it, chop it up, put it in the fridge and use like lunch meat.

Yeah man, much better alternatives than deli meat....and depending on goals, I would NEVER put the pre-packaged stuff in a daily diet.

If you must have, I'd go turkey or roast beef from boars head. But like I said, better alternatives
