BrickGirl abs transformation

Hehehe...I don't do crunches, I was just asking the "typical" questions. ;)

On a side note...why would her feet touch the floor?

Yep, and 20,000 bytes.

20K bytes, hmmmmm, gonna have to play with it, that is going to be tough, I'll give it a shot, just hope it doesn't come out too small :)

Cute Spatts. Sure...mess with my head when I'm all doped up here!

To answer your question though...maybe that's my problem, but when I do crunches and I'm laying on the floor, my heels are usually touching the floor and my toes are stuck under the sofa or bed, but I don't do them like this normally, I usually do them on an incline bench at the gym. I'd love to know the propper way to do crunches on the floor, so advice would be appreciated. :)

Doing crunches while your feet (or legs) are anchored down will REALLY work your hip flexors, while minimizing abdominal involvement. Not necessarily BAD, but not ideal if you are trying to focus on working the abs. So doing crunches with your feet under an object, being held down by a partner, or on a bench with your legs held down your hip flexors will be the primary mover in getting you UP and your abdominals a secondary muscle group. Sooooo, UNanchor those feet!

When doing "normal" crunches on the ground, I lightly rest JUST my heels on the ground. I find that if I put a flat foot down, I tend to push my feet into the ground to "help" me up - again, limiting actual ab involvement. Additionally, if I raise my feet off the ground entirely, my hip flexors get tired quickly (I need to work on hip flexor strength!). So I compromise and lightly rest my heels only on the ground.

Additionally, always make sure you squish your lower back into the ground (pelvic tilt) to start each movement.

Hm...back when I DID crunches ;) I usually put a 45 pound plate on my lower legs and held it parallel to the floor, then I did crunches and leg raises with the plate there. For the leg raises I would lower my feet until just before I hit the floor, and then pull my knees back into my chest and crunch at the same time. There were other ab moves I used, but those were the only "crunches." Not sure there IS a right way...just alot of ways. Whatever works.

Obviously whatever brickgirl does works for her...that and her diet. :D

I'd have to say it's 90% diet and 10% training when it comes to abs.

I rarely do ab work - front squats, GMs, and weighted pullups seem work to work them well enough for me. I'll only do ab work if I'm REALLY bored. Unfortunately, abs are all any one really notices in the gym - I've worked really hard on my back development, but no one ever notices. :-(
