Blisters on deads?

Does anyone have this problem? I hit a new PR on deads last night (285). I managed to hold on just fine, but my hands were shredded raw.

Any ideas? I suppose I could wear gloves, but that impedes my grip somewhat..

Hmm, I have some pretty good caluses, but my wife hates them cause they make my hands rough. She wants me to get gloves, but I don't really want to... maybe I'll wear one glove filled with vaseline to keep a hand soft, Curly style (Of Mice and Men, for you philistines out there :p)

Work on your grip bro. Static holds. Farmer's walks.

Chalk will help some.

Straps are a last resort, but I use them only on heavy deads, near my max, weighed chins, and heavy rows.

LOL backlash, My W hates rough hands too, but im not about to give up my rough hands.

I havent read that book since I was in high school. Ill keep the vasaline away from my hands.

That reminds me when I was in college there was a guy that had a prosthetic hand (Like in "King Pin" with Woody Harrleson) He had to put vaseline in that thing to keep his stub from getting chaffed. At parties, if you got him drunk enough, he would take it off and set it on his head.

The good ole days.

I once ripped a callous open during a meet pulling my 3rd attempt. I didn't realize until I saw the blood. It was cool :)

My husband doesn't mind the callouses too much. Try using chalk next time. I agree that gloves are for weenies.

Don't do anything but continue to deadlift.

If anything, you are lucky that you only got blisters. That means you still had skin left on your hands. When you tear your callouses off and leave blood on the bar, then you know you are doing it right.

Eventually, your hands will get used to it.
