Birth Control Pill Agony

I am on Alesse, it's a low dose pill. I wake up hungry. The only week my hunger is normal is the week right after my period. I retain more fat and water on the pill as well. My workouts suffer b/c I get tired, or feel weak half way through. Recovery is a pain literally. My doctor said to find the right pill is like dating, you gotta see what fits. A very bleak analogy considering dating in NYC is as rough as it gets. I may switch, but I feel like I am on a roller coaster. Ever see the show Total Makeover the Home Edition w/ that hot guy Ty...I cry like a baby every week...gotta love the hormones.

Alesse was friggin nightmare for me, as was Yasmin - I was hysterical on the phone with the doctor until I talked him into changing it and when he wouldn't put me back on Demulen I had my father call it in for me.

I would change it.

I have never used any form of BC pill, and I've concluded after this thread, still never will

:D

(pay no attention to me, I just wanted to post)

Bunny you have the right idea!!! I flipped pills around for 8 years and finally said screw it early last year. That's when the weight started dropping, mood swings went away, cramps, bloating, 5 dayers.... I'm a MUCH happier person off that thing and will never go back.

:wavey: hey gurl! where have you been??

I've been very lucky as I've used basically the same brand since the mid-80s. Tri-levelin / Tri-phasal (one is the generic brand & I forget which). These are extremely low doses of estrogen & progesterone. I don't really recall ever encountering any weight gain with them. I did go off while I did my competitions.

Yeah, i forgot to mention that with depo, I don't have a period. I havent had a period in like 7 years, I'm obviously able to have kids because i've had two. But, yea, no cramps, no nasty tampons or maxis, what a pain!!! Yeah, i'll deal with the slow metabolism, (and if I don't really have a slow metabolism, it's not REALLY caused by the depo, and i'm just a pig, i still have an excuse that nobody can argue with!!), just to bypass that monthly visitor...

AMEN!

I am also on Depo, and have been for 12 yrs. I love it - no periods, bloating, or mood changes. I also have no problem with my sex drive (or the quality of it!). I did gain a few pounds in the first year or so, but lost it. This is common, as many of the studies on Depo show an initial gain of a few pounds, but no weight difference between depo and non-depo users after 3yrs or so. I would much rather change my diet and exercise to achieve what I want than go off of it. I have never competed, which would make a difference, but I have gotten down to 17% BF before (and am trying to now). New studies are showing a decrease in bone mass that is reversible once stopping depo, but these studies were not performed in women that weight lift, so I am skeptical about that in my case.
