Best way to get lower back up to par

My lower back is preventing me from going as heavy as I would want with squats and stiff-legged deads. I'm currently doing needsize's 5x5 program . Any suggestions?

Can you say more about what's going on with your lower back? An injury or just weakness?

If it's just weakness, I recommend good mornings as a main move.

Also - how are your abs and obliques? If you don't do weighted moves, switch to them. (Be careful with weighted oblique work if you have a bad back - once again, need more info.)

edit - i saw from the other thread that you do cable crunches. Bully for you!

work them hard.
my low back was nonexistent until recently ! (injury)
I HIGHLY recommend trainign WSB for a few months, to bring up yo' back

I used to have a pretty weak back. Now I'm doing straight-leg deadlifts, goodmornings and romanian deadlifts. It seems to be strengthening nicely. I also do really heavy standing oblique curls. I have a lot of problems with my sacroiliac so I do lower back, abs and obliques all on different days.

like everyone said hit the good mornings, they are one of the best exercises you can do period. also hit some back extensions.

Aren't good mornings more made to target the hamstrings?

I feel like if I go too heavy and go down to parallel with the floor (this is correct, right?) my back wont support me and it's going to snap.
