Best ab exercises

What do you think are the most effective ab exercises for the upper, lower abs, and obliques?? Hoping you guys have a few that I can add to my routine :). In my opinion they would be

Lower - Hanging Leg Raises, V-Ups, Captains chair
Upper - Weighted Crunches, V-Sits, Breathing techniques
Oblique - Medicine ball twists(on decline) .. and honestly i havne't found any REALLY good oblique exercises besides this one(other than adding twisting motions to some exercises)

Anyone else?

Heavy weighted situps on a decline and bicycle crunches too.

For obliques... Incline Twisting Crunches, twisted situps, and regular twisting crunches.

What are V-Ups and V-Sits ?

Effective for what? Size? Strength?

...we all have an 8 pack. The only difference is the amount of crap between the abs and the eyes.

actually it isn't a v it's more of a square root sign, its like a reverse crunch and a crunch mixed into one, except in the down posostion you keep your legs extended out in front of you about 6 onches off of the ground

When i said effective, I guess i meant either size or strength, just have to switch up the resistance/reps, you should still be able to use the same exercise...usually.

Anyhow, V-sits are when you sit on the edge of say, your weight bench, grab the bench by your butt, with your palms facing you. Your legs are all the way extended out, parallel with the ground. You then bring your upper body towards your legs and your legs toward your chest, while exhaling out all the air you can, and tightening your ab muscles as hard as you can.

V-ups are when you lie on the ground, then raise your legs and upper back a few inches from the ground. Then you raise your legs toward the celing, and simultaneously reach toward your feet with your arms, and as with the V-sits, exhale and contract :).

Hope that helps. Anyone else have any other favorite exercises?

I would say that strength moves can be used for size, but not necessarily the reverse. Strength leads to size, but size doesn't yield strength in every case. Ab movements that involve the hip flexors, and/or use the abs and hip flexors in the same plane as the squat will increase core ab strength to assist in overall lift increases. In other words, you don't see powerlifters doing "crunches" to help their squats...you see weighted standing pulls with wise stance and straight legs, spread eagle sit ups, etc...

No such thing as upper and lower abs...
One big muscle... think of the seperations as a sheath or a fiber or something, all 8 of those muscles are one big sucker that just look like multiple muscles through the illusion of the aformentioned sheaths/fibre things...

I can't think of a better way to describe the muscles creases right now.... but i read this somewhere in the last couple of months...

Might want to look into it abit more
