Bench Press Max vs Reps

Ok, gotsa question for you all. Being a BIG football fan, I was checking out my teams draft picks profiles, and was seeing a Max Bench Press as well as a Max # of reps with 225 pounds, noticing some guys with lower maxes could do more reps with 225 and vice versa. I find this interesting because while my Max is nothing special (335 pounds right now), I can do 25 reps with 225. Just seems one would be stronger overall if they could do a lot of reps with 225, but I guess this isn't the case. Just wondering where the rest of ya stood on this for comparisons sake. :D

It is hard to say that x number of reps equals x max. It has a lot to do with your ratio of fast twitch to slow twitch muscle fibers. I can't rep shit. I tried 225 for reps after my last meet and did a whopping 17 reps. But I have benched 475 with a shirt, and am in the high 300's to low 400's without one. I don' t max without a shirt on in flat bench because of a funky shoulder, but I have declined over 400.

However, according to the charts, I should only be able to bench 330 or so. I regularly go much higher than that warming up before putting on a shirt. I am not saying this to blow smoke about myself, I am just showing that the charts don't work for everyone.

I have zero proof to back this up...but I do feel that with higher reps...maybe a more in-shape person might be able to get more. Not exactly for sure though...just a thought.

Also...I tend to find that people who often train with lighter weigths for higher reps...tend not to have as high of a max as those who train mostly with low reps. Those that mostly to train with low reps tend not be so good at high rep efforts. Hope that made some sense...

There are all kinds of different strengths...

i believe the max takes in muscle strength while the rep test looks at strenght and indurance its kinda like comparing running the 100m dash to the 800m run
