Bench Article Sept. Monster Muscle

Like I said, as a beginner, I will make fast jumps, so a chart would limit me. That's all I'm saying.

I hate to keep repeating myself, but I still think the body's natural recovery processes are at risk as well. At least mine would be. I hope you all try it and hit 50+.

...I have had amazing luck with carry-over.

I am with spatts on this one. If I have a 20 lb pr on something, then I am usually pretty close to being 20 lbs stronger. Not everyone works like that, I suppose, but for me it seems to work out.

B.

If I read this article on the way to the meet...do you think it will help me make my attempts??!

I agree. Periodisation can work well........but it fails when you do back to back cycles. You need breaks in between. Also, the numbers are just a guide.......you should always be pushing for more.

Regarding Benches post concerning Ed Coan.......it seems you are holding Ed Coans naturally good leverages against him. It would be much harder for Ed Coan than LS to find somebody who is equally or better built than him to powerlift. Judging the man by how many people he has trained to lift more than him is a bit unfair because of this.

what about coan's periodization program? i heard a lot of good things from people about that...and when you plug your numbers in, the more you bench, the more you gain. if you bench 400 or so i think it's like a 40-45 pound gain.

but everybody who used this said it didnt work the second time they tried this. i believe this is because they tried it twice in a row, without doing something else for a while inbetween. or a person can only use something like this once with much success and then has to search for something else...

thats just what i think..

i agree with you benchmonster, that the conjugate method may work best for most people. however, i've heard a few people say they've had very good results with the program. of course these people may also be genetically gifted (if one finishes this cycle and gets the numbers they're supposed to, i think you're looking at an 11% increas in lbs)

i just mentioned that seeing that people were talking about periodization and good gains.

if a westside-style routine works for me, which im confident it is, then i'll keep using it. if not, then i may try something like that program. either way, i'm just looking to add the most lbs on my bench. whatever works, works

good luck at the meet bench. let us know how it goes

Absolutely.

Good post Imnotdutch. I get so sick of all this Westside/Louie Simmons crap. Thats all I hear on here.

Let's keep in mind that non-periodization does not equal Westside. Speed training does not equal Westisde. These are training methods that have been around a while. If you are associating every post about ME and DE work, and conjugate training with "Westside," then no wonder you're fed up.

You make me feel like I shouldn't talk about my training, because it is a modified WSB. You know my philosophy is "whatever works." Well, that's what works for me, right now. Your negativity about WSB training is practically reverse descrimination. If you TRULY believe in doing whatever it takes to get the numbers, then don't bash other's methods. Likewise, they shouldn't bash yours.

That said, stating your opinion about another method shouldn't be considered "bashing." It's an opinion; hopefuly based on personal experience. No more, no less. No need to take it personally.

Peace.

I hate to say this but posts like this just make me sit here and shake my head.

Let me ask you this, when does Westside stop being Westside to become 'modifed' Westside? Isn't Westside all about modifying your routine based around a set of ideas? And those ideas are constantly changing. The whole point is to modify......so what makes your modifed version special? Incidentally, I would be interested to see what your definition of 'Westside' is.

I think you actually missed Solid's point.....it is the same point that I have expressed several times before. Fact of the matter is, on this board you tend to get jumped on if you talk anything other than Westside. If you remember I made this exact point in that recent thread concerning Arioch.....you know the one where some of us were deemed to have acted in a 'almost high school clique-ish underhanded' manner. However, this point just doesn't seem to be getting across.......and is usually met by posts such as yours where us humble non-WS's get talked down to. In this situation, that little comment about reverse discrimination is just comical.

I stated my feelings, it is your perogative to find them comical.

I modify my routine to allow for cross-competing in bodybuilding. Last I checked there weren't sepcific rotations for symmetry and "frontal" work in Westside...nor is there any reason for there to be.

I PM'd with SolidJ, and it seems we understood one another just fine.

BTW...ever wonder why Corn's Westside training thread is on training and not PL?
