Belt Squats... question...

b fold the truth

Elite Strongman
Platinum
I was curious to see if anyone had any experience with belt squats. I was curious to see if these, or handle squats, would help with my atlas stones (especially with doing 5-10 stones at once).

What kind of poundages do you use?
Reps?
Sets?

How do you have your set up designed?

Thanks

Take into account that i am no strongman.

But i would go for the handle squats due to the pull of the weight and the involvement of the traps, rear delts, torso etc etc.

Belt squats to me was felt just in the quads.

I would go with zerchers and handle squats...maybe even zercher deadlifts, zercher good mornings.....and dead lifts off blocks.

the good mornings may not be of use to you due to your current strength levels....you may have a hard time with the bar on your elbows.

Okay, finally got the pictures uploaded.

This stand is 70" wide, 2' deep, and 30" tall. It's a 2x4 frame with 3/4" ply on the top and sides, with plenty of 2 1/2" screws for anchors.

I really think you could drop the height to 20-24" without it being too low.

I've been doing these as accessory work with higher reps and lighter weight, but one of the Springfield guys did it with two 100lb plates.

when would someone do these ?? after de or me movement ???
primarily as an assitance exercise of project stated ??

I plan to do them either after my DE days or my ME days...directly after my main exercise. Who knows...I might do them on both or even as an event.

ive done them on my me days, i dont use alot of weight(up to maybe 200) but i try to jump out of the bottom real hard, i usually sit on a hassock when i do them, i dont do them very often though, since they tend to hit my quads more than my post chain. BTW nice setup proj. and bfold i think they could help your atlas stones some, just set up like you going to when your at the stone, and pick something up like a swiss ball or something when you do them, to make it more "sport specific"

That's what I do too, liftbig. I just shoot for rock bottom speed out of the hole. This seems to be where I fail in competition, so I've been hitting these as 2nd moves or accessory moves on ME day.

I find that if I try to do these for max effort, my knees don't like it and my hip flexors feel overtrained REALLY fast.
