Barbell bench vs dumbbell bench

Which one will benifit you the most
Both are great. My opinion.. Bench is and will always be a staple in a good chest routine hands down. At the same time DB bench is good because it helps more with stabilization, can fix muscle inbalances, and it is used as a replacement when you need to switch things up.

Ok...right now i max out at 325lbs and have been there for a while and i want to get 405lbs at least once...but im not sure on what to do to get there...ive tryed switching things up but still havent gained anything

325's by no means shabby. You must be doing something right to have gotten this far. How long have you tried switching it up? are you just mixing it up every other workout or are you strictly sticking to dumbbells for an extended period of time? Also be sure to mix up your rep pattern every now and again as well. To break out of my ruts on barbell bench I'll switch to strictly dumbbells for about eight weeks - focus on strict form and balance. I personally run something like a set of 12, 10, 8, 6, and 4 reps while increasing weight. Still hit incline, decline and flat. Your not going to be throwing up 325 with dumbbells so don't be concerned with impressing anyone as much as you are with form. Good luck 405s a pretty cool #.

Thats cutthroat...and when i switch it up i have never went that long...i always switched for about 3 weeks but always threw in a barbell bench every once in a while...but ill try to go longer next time and maybe find some new exercises to do also..thanks for the help

I think you should incorporate both into your routine. Dumbbells are more versatile and hit the stabilizer muscles more, but barbells in my opinion have some really great muscle building exercises, for example: "the barbell deadlift" (king of lower back exercises), "the barbell squat" (king of leg exercises), and the "barbell curl" (king of bicep exercises).

But dumbbells have 1 major advantage over the barbell that I can think of. You don't need a spotter with most exercises! You can just drop the weight to the side of you if it gets to heavy. With allot of barbell exercises especially the barbell bench press you will need a spotter for your heavy lifts unless you want to be at the mercy of hundreds of pounds pressing down on your chest, when ya can get-it up!

Mix'm up both are good and have advantages and disadvantages. Just remember safety first my friend.
