Any good as a carb source while dieting as far as I know they have good fats !

If they are whats the best times ?

Basically if they fit in your diet macros, you can have them, remember calories in vs. calories out, and just try to have them early in the day

serving medium, 7" to 7-7/8" long (4.2 oz)

Calories 105

Value* % Daily
Total Fat 0.4 g 1%
Saturated Fat 0.1 g 1%
Cholesterol 0 mg 0%
Sodium 1 mg 0%
Total Carbohydrates 27 g 9%
Dietary Fiber 3.1 g 12%
Sugars 14.4 g
Protein 1.3 g
Calcium 5.9 mg
Potassium 422.4 mg

I've ate a banana everyday for a long time (even during my weight loss), so i'd say go for it. I even had one this morning.

I also eat (at least) one everyday. I have one with my breakfast.

I don't think its a good source of fats as much as it is a source for carbs and just otherwise nutritional. Bananas contain alot of sugar, but if you are eating them along with a large breakfast anyway, it will negate the impact of the sugars for the most part.

As muchmass says, if you can fit it in your diet, go for it. But at some point the further you take your cut, bananas may not be your best choice as they are higher in sugar and don't have the thermogenic to carbohydrate ratio that something like blueberries would have.

This becomes an issue only as calories become a premiun...that is when bodyfat gets low and you only have "X" amount of calories to play with, and you still want fruit, then a banana may not be the best way to go.

Yep, they are simple carbs so get burned up easy as long as your active. Also the potassium in them helps reduce the risk of hypertension.

would someone list the thermogenic to carb ratio for different fruits?

Don't have exact numbers, but here is a nice outlook....

Fruit with an excellent Thermogenic/Carbohydrate Ratio include: Apples, Blueberries, Grapefruit, Peaches, Strawberries vs. Inferior Thermogenic Effect Fruits: Bananas, Dried Fruit, Raisins, etc., Watermelon.

This comes from Beverly, who has been doing competition diets and diets for atheletes just trying to lean out further for a long time.

If they work then go with it. Personally, blueberries and strawberries..or any berry works better for me.

I think they're great for post-workout. All other nutritional aspects of them I think are better comming from other sources.
