Bad spotters.

I never really used spotters before, but since I've decided to up my weights and decrease my volume, I felt the need to rep right to the end and do some negatives as well.... so now I ask for a spot from someone when I do bench press.

But today I picked the wrong guy and he screwed the whole thing up for me. From the first rep, he was holding onto the bar and taking some of the weight and after about the 4th rep he kept trying to put it back on the rack every time I got it up, even though I had a few more to go.... I did mention how many I expected to get to before needing help. Then when I was almost done, I said "Okay, one more" but as soon as he heard the word "Okay" he racked it up. And that threw my whole bench press right out for the next two sets, and I had to add an extra because my chest wasn't fatigued properly on that set.

Pissed me off. I'll try to make a better selection next time.

Know what you mean man. When I need a spot, I'll look for someone I'm familiar with, even if it means waiting a little longer between sets. I think it's worth it.

But that's not always possible. So I just look for someone who looks like he knows what he's doing. But even then it's even money. Hopefully you can find a couple guys who lift when you do who know their shit and can help you out.

The best is when u get a spotter that starts screaming for u to push...C'MON MAN...ONE MORE....PUUUUUUSHHHH. The whole gym turns around to watch u. Fun eh...if u like attention that is.

I agree

Ive had the same despite saying dont touch the bar

what you need to say is this

DONT TOUCH THE FUCKING BAR UNTIL I CANT MOVE IT OFF MY CHEST!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

but then they still dont listen and "lightly" hold the bar "just incase", but even this lightens the load

wish I had a power rack

That's one of the very BIGGEST reasons I love my trainer. I have told him this very thing before too: He knows when to talk, when to shut-up and let me focus, when to tell me to get my f'ing head in the game, when to lean over, look in my eyes, and say, "You have this, now lets go" in a quiet, but stern voice...He's just damn good. Never yells at me, but pumps me up like nuthin else.

Nothing worse than the guy that wants to do an upright row when you're trying to bench. I've been training with dissto lately, he won't touch the bar unless it's about to reorgainze my anatomy for me, and all the while he's pointing out all the chicks that can lift more than me, including my mom, THAT'S a spot.

Easy Solution...
Agree to the number Reps you want to try for..
Tell them to not touch the Bar or your arms until you say or GRUNT the word "SPOT"

Someone else here mentioned this solution a few weeks back and I tried it.
Problem solved unless they don't listen to you.

Then theres the other type of spotter who doesnt touch the bar but whos also looking in the other direction at all the women workin out while your in the process of being crushed to death by the bar
