The money you spend on a lawyer will probably cost more then all that gear you lost. Consider this a valuable life lesson. Hide your gear at all times. Do not tell anyone about it. Kick your roommate out for good.

That's right. If I was you I would go to the district attorneys office and want to see the report showing the gear was destroyed. This will get the PO's ass in some real deep shit. He will get tested and then busted big time.

Technically, i don't think the PO could search your whole house at all..i would have just closed the door on him and locked it behind him...at least that would have given you time to flush your stuff or hide it in YOUR room..

In the future, leave your gear in your room and not shared places in the apt/house.

I am going to contact a civil rights attorney and ask him about it though. If he thinks I have a case, he'll take it for free until I collect damages.

Ya I know. I just want to talk to the civil rights attorney to make sure I completely understand my rights in case something like this happens again. I actually do know my rights, but the whole probation thing kind of gave them a loophole to fuck me. Plus I wasn't thinking clearly at the time. I'll be smarter for next time, that's for sure.

I know this for sure. Another person who has no right to your space ( room ) can not give consent to search an area that is not theirs. Anything found illegal or other wise can be seized but you cannot be charged. Its called fruit of the posinous tree. Only thing you can do now ( no something you should do ) is file a complaint that your rights have been violated. I would only do this if they try to charge. Now if you are dumb enough to talk with the cops and admit that the gear was yours GOOD LUCK hire a good lawyer. Remember never admit to anything. Deny deny deny. Always say you want an attorney.
